How to Assign a New Shortcut Key to a Command

1 On the View menu, click Customize.

2 The Customize dialogue box is displayed.

3 Select the Keyboard tab.

4 From the drop down list box under Categories, select All Commands (at the bottom).

5 In the Commands box, select the command you want to assign a new shortcut key to.

6 Select the Press New Shortcut Key box.

7 Press the key on the keyboard that you want to assign as the shortcut key.

8 Click Assign.

9 The new shortcut key appears in the Current Keys box.

10 Click Close on the Customize dialogue box to return to text editing mode.


Tip: You can assign as many shortcut keys as you want to a single command.

Note: When you choose a key in the Press New Shortcut Key box, text appears below the box, informing you whether that key is available, or whether it is already in use.
