This section contains the settings that apply to the resident virus shield.

General search settings

This section controls the general virus search parameters for the resident virus protection

Search areas settings

In this section the targets of the virus search operation are specified. It is possible to scan all files on the hard drive, but this would take a lot of time. It is more preferable to scan file types that are known to be virus targets.

The selected files list contains the following file types:

Target files

This section describes the files to be scanned by the program.

All files
The program will scan all files for viruses. this is a very time consuming operation.
Selected files
The program will check only selected specific file. These can be the following:
  • Program files: files that are executable in Windows operating systems.
  • Document files: Microsoft Office document files, the most common targets for Word macro viruses.
  • Table files: Microsoft Office spreadsheet files, the most common targets for Excel macro viruses.
  • Jet engine files: Microsoft Office database files, the most common targets for Access macro viruses.
  • Script files
Included files

This section contains the additional file extensions to be scanned. Multiple file extension can be specified by separating them with semicolons.

Excluded files

This section contains the file extensions to be excluded from the scan. Multiple file extension can be specified by separating them with semicolons.

Search method settings

The options available on this page control the parameters of the virus scan including the scan sensitivity and the actions to be performed when an infected object is found.

Normal scan

Normal scan means the identification of known viruses which is performed using the virus information stored in the VirusBuster virus database.

Sensitivity This field specifies the scan sensitivity. The full scan will scan the entire content files, the other two options only the file areas where the viruses normally reside. The full scan is more time consuming and may result in false alarms. The available options are:

On killable virus found

This section specifies the action to be performed when a disinfectable virus is detected. The preferred method is to kill the virus from the file.

  The available options are:

On not killable virus found

This section specifies the action to be performed when a not disinfectable virus is detected. For these viruses it is not possible to perform proper disinfection, the preferred method is to delete or quarantine the infected target.

The available options are:

Heuristic scan

This section contains the settings concerning the heuristic scan options for the VirusBuster Scanner.

Sensitivity

The heuristic scan analyses the program codes in the VirusBuster code emulator. The code is traced to a specific number of instructions. Higher sensitivity means longer trace but it results in the slowdown of the scan progress.

The available options are:

  On found

This section contains the actions that should be performed when a virus is found.

The available options are:

Macro heuristic scan

The available options are:

  On found

This section contains the actions that should be performed when a macro virus is found. For macro viruses it is possible to delete all macros from the document without damaging its content.

The available options are:

Excluded pathes settings

This section contains the files and directories to be excluded from the scan. Several entries  can be specified here using the Add button. Existing entries can me deleted by the Remove button.
