The Kalendar application is designed to allow you to keep track of your appointments and lists of to-do tasks.
The kalendar screen consists of three or four regions depending on the view chosen. In any view, the top lefthand side of the screen contains a calendar navigator. In Day and Week view, the bottom lefthand side of the screen contains a day note editor. In Day view, the top righthand side of the screen contains a list of Day Events (including common calendar items). In all views rest of the righthand side of the screen contains appointments appropriate to the view selected.
The Day view displays appointments for the selected day. The day can be selected by pressing on a date on the month view calendar to the left of the window. From the day view, you can double-click with the left mouse button within the day display. Doing so on an existing appointment will allow you to edit that appointment. Doing so on a blank time slot will create a new appointment which, by default, starts at that time.
The Week View displays appointments for seven days from the currently selected day.
The Month View displays all appointments for the month of the currently selected day. From the month view, you can click with the middle mouse button on a specific day to bring up the Day View.
The Year View displays a colour coded chart showing all dates for which appointments,events and day notes exist. From the year view, you can click with the middle mouse button on a specific day to bring up the Day View.
To create a new appointment, select New from the Appointment menu item. To edit an appointment, select it from the list by pressing once on the appointments subject text with the left mouse button, and then select Edit from the Appointment menu. Enter the subject text, select a start & end time and optionally enter a descriptive text and then press Okay. If you select an Alarm and pre-appointment start time, an alarm will be fired at the interval specified before the appointment is due to start. Selcting a sensitivity other than public will allow only users with the correct security access the ability to view the appointment.
To view an appointment, select it from the list by pressing once on the appointments subject text with the left mouse button, and then select View from the Appointments menu. The subject text, Start & Finish times and descriptive text will be displayed.
To delete an appointment, select it from the list by pressing once on the appointments subject text with the left mouse button, and then select Delete from the Appointment menu.
When an alarm fires, you can dismiss it by pressing the Okay button, or you can make the alarm repeat 5 minutes later by pressing repeat.
The To-Do List view displays a list of To-Do items and their priorities. To edit an item, double click with the left mouse button on the item.
To create a new To-Do item, select New from the Tasks menu item. To edit a To-Do item, select it from the list by pressing once on the subject text with the left mouse button, and then select Edit from the Tasks menu. Enter the subject text, select a priority and optionally enter a descriptive text and then press Okay.
To view a To-Do item, select it from the list by pressing once on the items subject text with the left mouse button, and then select View from the Tasks menu. The subject text, Priority and descriptive text will be displayed.
To mark a To-Do item a completed, double click with the left mouse button on the region within the to-do list immediately before the subject. Completed items are marked with a 'Y'. These items are automatically removed when you next open Kalendar.
To delete a To-Do item, select it from the list by pressing once on the items subject text with the left mouse button, and then select Delete from the Tasks menu.
Any appointment or Event can be made
to repeat, either forever, or until a given date. There are three
repeat intervals which repeat as follows :-
Yearly (Anually) -
Repeats once a year on the date selected. Month By Day - Repeats each
month on (or as near to as possible) the day of month selected. Month
By Date - Repeats each month on the day of the week and week of the
month specified (for example, the second thursday of the month).
The configure dialog is used to set up your displayed name, your e-mail address and your preferred date format.
The security dialog is used to define who has access to your
calendar and the level of access granted to them.
Appointment are
defined as either public, business or personnal. All users,
regardless of any security setting, can view public appointments, but
only those users you wish to can view, add or delete business and/or
personnal appointments.
To add a new user, enter their username in
the edit box and press the add button.
To edit a users
details, click on the user in the list of users, then check/uncheck
the access rights. When happy, press the update button.
To
delete a user, click on the user in the list of users, then press the
delete button.
The tidy option clears all appointments before the currently selected date, but prompts for confirmation first.
If another user can update a calendar that you wish to open (including your own), and currently has it open, then you will be placed in Read-Only mode. This means that you cannot update the calendar. When opening your own calendar in Read-Only mode, any alarms that fire cannot be marked as having fired, so will fire again next time you open your calendar and will continue to do so until you can get Read-Write access to your calendar.
