Dear MediaStudio Pro 5.0 users,

Since the release of MediaStudio Pro, we have been overwhelmed by the response from our loyal users, the recognition from leading video publications and the support from our video partners. To help make our products better and to provide you with the best possible video editing solution, we have been hard at work building a special update. This is free for download and offers many enhancements not found in the initial release.

To install the MediaStudio Pro 5.0 Update, simply download and run the EXE file. The installation program will automatically update your existing version of MediaStudio Pro 5.0.

Note: The update is approximately 7Mb in size and may take considerable time to download. Please make sure that you have sufficient time and system resources available before you start the download process. If you have trouble downloading this update, or would like to receive a CD version, please contact your local dealer of MediaStudio Pro 5.0. (This may take 4-6 weeks depending on your dealer and location.)

Kind Regards
Ulead Systems

Special Note for Miro DC20+ users: This MediaStudio Pro 5.0 Update does not address specific concerns for the DC 20+ card. Miro will address these themselves and will be distributing update CDs within the next few weeks. For more information on this, please contact support@miro.com.

Changes and enhancements you will find with this update:

  1. If you have multiple capture drivers installed, you can now choose a specific driver from the Setup menu.

  2. You can now specify the audio codec used in preview mode. The Audio tab has also been removed from the Preview Options dialog box and placed as an Audio button under the Compression tab.

  3. The preview window size may be dependent or independent of the frame size specified in the preview options. This option can be found on the General tab of the Preferences dialog box.

  4. Changes made to the size of the Video Editor Scratch Pad are retained across all Scratch Pad sessions.

  5. Thumbnail generation has been improved by allowing you to specify a maximum of 10 codec formats.

    To enable more than one hardware acceleration codec format, for example, MJPG, DVCS and DVSD, you have to specify them in your Ulead32.ini file, found in your Windows directory, separated by commas as shown below:

    [HardwareAcc]
    HwCodecID=MJPG,DVCS,DVSD

  6. Depending on your video capture board, you can now playback multiple clips directly from the timeline (bypassing the dreaded Windows 2GB file size limit). To utilize this feature, however, your video capture board needs to have the appropriate plug-in (provided by your board manufacturer). At present plug-ins are available only for the ///FAST AV Master and DV Master boards. (Although more are on the way.) In all you can specify a maximum of 9 third party playback plug-ins. (For more on when these will arrive, please contact your board manufacturer.)

    To install playback plug-ins for preview, first copy the plug-ins to your hard drive and then add the following to your Ulead32.ini file:

    [Playback]
    Playdll[n]=c:\temp\mpb.dll

    where n is the plug-in number, ranging from 1 to 9, c:\temp is the path where you saved the plug-ins, and mpb.dll is the file name of the plug-in.

  7. Users can now specify how many audio buffers are used during capturing (in Video Wizard and Video Capture) by changing the Ulead32.ini file as follows:

    [VCAP4_AUDIO]
    AudioBuffers=2

  8. You can now abort a capture when using the Video Wizard by pressing the Esc key.

  9. In the Save Audio File dialog box, the WAV file format is now the default.

  10. In Video Capture, the NTSC drop frame time code has been changed from 00:00:00:00 to 00:00:00.00.

  11. Video Capture default preview options have been changed as follows:

    NTSC: 720*480 29.97
    PAL: 720*576 25

  12. A setting can now be added to the Ulead32.ini to prevent the capture driver and the codec driver from being active at the same time.

    [VCAP4_CAPTURE]
    DisableDriverBeforePlayback=1

Attention: This update program can not be installed over itself, or over a more recent version. Check the version number in the Video Editor About dialog box before you try to download this large program. This update program will only work if the version number in your About dialog box reads 5.0.
