1.
How to set up a connection |

- Double-click with your left mouse button on My
computer.

- Double-click with your left mouse button on Dial-Up
Networking.

- Double-click with your left mouse button on Make New
Connection.

- In this screen you are required to enter a name for
connection, which is the computer you are dialling in to. Remove My connection.
- Type World Online in the empty field.
- Under select a device: select your own modem.
- Note for ISDN users!:
- Sometimes a modem is shown here, that will enable you to
connect, but with which you cannot receive messages or use your connection in any other
way. (Some of these modems are: X75 and V120, but other modems exist).
- Select a channel (line) number with the down arrow key. For
instance: Teles Channel 2).

If you use an analogue
modem:
If you use ISDN:
- Put your area code directly in front of the
phone number: for instance: 020-1234567.
- The Country code will automatically be set
to Netherlands (31)

- You have made an dial-up connection. Click Finish
to return to the Dial-Up Networking screen.

2. How
to check the properties of the dial-up connection |

Since you will have to configure
the dial-up connection, proceed as follows:
- Click with the right mouse button on World Online.
- Choose Properties from the menu.
- Tip: would you like to put a shortcut on
your desktop? Click with your right mouse button on World Online and
choose Make shortcut. You will first receive the warning that no shortcut
can be made, here. Choose for the option to place the shortcut on your desktop. Next
choose Yes.

- In this screen you can uncheck the option Use area
code and Dialing Properties. The area code and country code will then be
displayed in grey.
- Type your local dial-up number: Click here for you local dial-up number
- Under Connect using your modem should be
displayed.
- Click on the Server Types tab.

- As Type of Dial-Up server you should see 'PPP:...'.
- All Advanced options should be unchecked.
- Under Allowed network protocols only 'TCP/IP'
may be checked. Make sure to uncheck all the others.
- On the right of 'TCP/IP' click with your
left mouse button on the button TCP/IP-settings.

- Click the first option: Server
assigned IP address.
- The fourth option should be selected as well: Specify
name server addresses.
- For Primary DNS enter: 195.146.100.5
- For Secondary DNS enter: 195.241.100.100
- Leave the Primary and Secondary WINS as
they are. World online does not support WINS.
- Use IP header compression may be checked.
This option will not interfere with your connection. But for an optimal connection, it is
best to uncheck it.
- The option Use default gateway on remote network
must be checked, in order to establish a connection.
- Click OK.
- You will now return to the Server Types tab
.
- Continue by clicking the tab General.

- Click on the button Configure.
- You will than see another tab called General.
- Did you select the right port? (COM-port).
- The Maximum speed can be set to: 115200.
- For a more stable connection you can also set the Maximum
speed to: 57600.
- Click on the Connection tab.

- The Data bits must set to: 8
- The Parity must be set to: No
- The Stop bits must be set to: 1
- All other settings can be adjusted according to your own
wishes.
- Click on the button Port Settings.

- You do not have to change any options here.
- Click OK.
- Click on the Advanced Connection Settings
button.

- Either check or uncheck Compress
data.
- Modulation type should be Standard.
- You can enter an initalisation string under Extra
settings. This field is empty by default.
- Use flow control must be checked and Hardware
(RTS/CTS) selected.

- Click Bring up terminal
window after dialing. The Terminal window is a black screen
in which you can see the information that will be exchanged with the remote host. This
option is unchecked by default.
- Log in and you will see a black screen, stating Welcome
to World Online.
- You will be required to enter you login name
once more. (You will not see anything on screen, whilst typing).
- Next, you will be required to enter your Password
(again the text will not appear on screen).
- Next you will see protocol wol >. After that,
enter: ppp. If you see an IP address and a MTU value everything
works fine. Press F7 to continue.
- You have now passed the password authentication manually.
- Click on Display modem status for
information on your modem after a connection has been made.

- If you double-click on World Online, this
screen will pop up.
- Your User name is your login name, all in small
letters.
- Your Password will be displayed as a serie
of stars.
- The option Save password will come in
handy. If you select this option, you will no longer have to enter your password in the
future. Should your modem ever fail to make a connection, this option may be unchecked and
you will be required to enter it again.
- Type your local dial-up number: Click here for you local dial-up number
- Dialing from defaults to Default location.
- For additional options click Dial Properties.
- Click on Connect to make a connection to World
Online.

- This is an overview of Dial Properties.You
can use them any way you want.
- Call switching can be disabled by entering: #43*. You will
have to check the option local first.
- If you use a telephone switch, which requires you to dial a 0
or another number first, you can enter that here.
- Once you believe all options are set to your satisfaction,
click OK.

3.
How to make a connection |

- Double-click with your left mouse button on My
computer.

- Double-click with your left mouse button on Dial-Up
Networking.

- Double-click with your left mouse button on the connection World
Online.
|

- You will now see the screen Connect to.
- In this screen you can your enter your user name and
password.
- If you check the option Save password, you
will not have to enter your password next time.
- If you cannot check this option, add Client for
Microsoft Networks in your Networksettings. Check this in
the following way.
- Type your local dial-up number: Click here for you local dial-up number.
- Now, click Connect.

- The modem will now dial the number.
- You will be able to hear the modem dial.

- Once the modem has made the connection, this screen will
appear. The computer is now checking your password, the combination of user name and
password.

- You are now connected to World Online.
- You may wish to select the option Do not show this
message again. This screen will no longer be displayed in the future.
- Now you can click Close.
- In your system tray, you will see a small icon (next to the
time display). These are two small, green monitors.
If you double-click this icon, you can see the
duration of your connection and the speed of the data transfer.

4.
How to end the connection |

- Would you like to disconnect?
- Double-click with your left mouse button on the Green
monitors in your system tray
(next to the time display).
- If you use ISDN, you will see another icon instead.
- In that case, you will see a second screen. Which provides
you with the following information:
- The duration of you connection,
- The connection speed,
- The number of bytes sent and received.
- Click on the button Disconnect to end the
connection.
