Sometimes
your connection to World Online can suddenly be shut down. This can occur
after a certain amount of time has passed, since the connection was
established, or on completely irregular moments. This is caused by an
instable connection, or by incorrect settings. The following options may
have to be changed:
If you
use an external modem, your modem may be experiencing overrun
errors, CRC errors or a combination of both. These
can be caused by a slow UART in the COM port. If you own 16550A, 16550AF
or 16650, you are using the correct UART. If another
sequence occurs, this is probably the cause; the UART is
not fast enough to keep up with the modem speed. This can be solved by
decreasing the modem speed.
Another
way to solve possible problems is the use of an appropriate initialisation
string, which is sent to your modem, before dialling out. In most modem
manuals an appropriate init string can be found. Should this not be the
case, you can try to use the init string AT&F&C1&D2B0.Click

It is
possible, that your modem does not respond correctly to the new technology
modem pools, that are implemented on most of our access points. These
modems produce an initial bleep, which makes many modems that cannot
communicate on 56k, stumble. This problem can be avoided by adding a
number of commas behind the World Online phone number. In order to be able
to use these settings permanently, you will have to adjust your World Online dial-up
connection.
