Miranda Web 3.6

Miranda Web 3.6 is an application which allows you in a simple way to create, edit and delete documents which require access by means of the WWW service. The document administration is made through a WWW browser.

Operating Area

In the operating area controls for modifying content and changing the principal document attributes are displayed. Provided you are the author of the document or the administrator, you have access to all editing controls. If you are not the owner (author) you may not change most document attributes.

Heading: The edit field where the document heading (title) can be entered. The text can contain spaces, characters with diacritic and so on.

Name: The edit field where the document name can be entered. It represents the name of a file which the document will be saved in and that will appear in the URL of this document and all its subdocuments. Consequently the text must contain only letters, numbers and characters "_" (underscore), "-" (dash), "." (period). It is probably most convenient to choose an abbreviation (without diacritic) as the document name.

Template list: Appearance of the final document depends on the chosen template, which will determine the place and form of individual document parts (heading, abstract, subdocuments listing,...). Each document tree administrated with Miranda Web can have its own template list.

Subdocuments list: Within the subdocuments list several operations can be made: such as deleting, copying subdocuments or moving to other subdocument. To be able to perform these actions it is necessary to begin by selecting a subdocument from the list.

Document address: Just over the abstract field (or over document text field if abstract is not displayed) you can find the address of the current document (URL). After clicking the address a new browser window will be displayed with an address set to the current document.

Abstract: The text field is primarily intended for a short summary of the document content. But the real use is controlled by the chosen template. The content can be entered as pure text or formatted HTML language. The text may only contain the body of the HTML document, it means the zone between operators <BODY> and </BODY>. The text should not contain these operators: <BODY>, </BODY>, <HTML>, </HTML>, <HEAD>, </HEAD>, <TITLE>, </TITLE>.

Document text: This text field is primarily intended for the definition of the document content. As in the previous example, the chosen template affects the real appearance of the document. It is necessary when writing the HTML text to keep in mind the rule mentioned in the Abstract field section (do not use operators, <BODY>,...).

Status Bar

The status bar located in the lower part of the operating area of the Miranda Web 3.6 application displays information about the last action executed. If it was an unsuccessful action the message will be highlighted by red letters.

Example of some messages:

The text was successfully transferred to the document "name".
The document "name" deleted!
Change of the attendant picture was made.
The target document name was not entered!
Manipulation with document components is not allowed!

Setting

The dialogue panel "Setting" allows you to modify many document parameters and the Miranda Web 3.6 environment as well. The dialogue panel is displayed by clicking the Setting button located in the toolbar.

The displayed panel consists of two parts. The upper part contains the scrollbar menu with various attributes of the document and the Miranda Web 3.6 interface. After selecting an item from the menu, the content of the lower panel changes and the required controls for modifying the parameters appear. After completing your changes it is necessary to click the "Apply" button to save any modification you have made.

File upload: To conveniently transfer text, pictures or other document components to a WWW server you may use the function "File upload". The source file can be selected by the file manager, which is displayed after clicking the "Browse..." button. Otherwise the entire file path can be entered into the text field next to the browse button. Three switches define a place to store the file. After choosing "Abstract" or "Main text surface" the appropriate edit field refreshes in the operating area. Provided "Additional components" are selected as a target, the file will be transferred to a WWW server to the current document and it can be referred from the document as follows.

<IMG SRC="file"> or <A HREF="file"> reference description </A>.

Additional components: The additional components that are a part of the current document can be administrated with this tool. References to a specific component of the current document can be entered into the main text area without knowing the HTML language syntax. It is sufficient to select "Enter component reference" or "Enter component as picture", then click the "Apply" button and an appropriate entry will be made in the text area.

Attention! Because of browser attributes the entry will be made at the end of text and not at the current cursor position.

The original component name can be modified by choosing the "Rename component" switch and entering a new name into the text field bellow the switch. If there are no references in the document to an originally named document these entries must be modified manually.

User interface setting: Every individual user of the Miranda Web 3.6 can adapt the operating interface to their own requirements. Provided the abstract text is not overly used the appropriate text field can be switched off (by the switch "Display abstract text field") or reduced in size by the numeric data in "Dimensions of the abstract text field".

The toolbar can contain either the most indispensable buttons or provided the browser window is wide enough, a "long" bar with more functions can be used. Switching between this two forms of the operating bar is done by the "Display long toolbar" switch.

The operating area next to the main text field and the optional abstract text field contain the additional basic controls that are indispensable for working with a document. Most notable are the document heading and the subdocument list. Other controls like the document names and template list can be displayed with the "Display long header of operating area" switch.

In addition to the abstract text field the main text field size can also be modified. It is done by modifying the numerical data in the fields "Dimensions of main text area".

Document Attributes

The folder "Document attributes" contains a set of the controls which affect document appearance and its relation to the surrounding documents.

Include in new document list: The document can be "marked" as new. Some page of the current publication then can use a template generating the reference listing to marked documents ("news" page).

Display subdocument list: This can be selected if you want the subdocument list to be displayed. It is convenient when the automatic formatting of the subdocument references made by a template is unsuitable and the references must be manually entered.

Insert in subdocument list: This can be selected if you want the current document to appear in the subdocument list of the parent document. It is used when a page tree is to be built up which does not cohere with the superior document and a link must not be visible. This is useful for instance when a document is not complete and it is necessary to temporarily "hide" them.

Access Rights

The modification of documents is protected against unauthorised users. Each document has one or several authors (owners), these individuals can make arbitrary document changes. A user creating a new document is automatically its author. The author can permit full access to a document to an arbitrary user, so that he can add his login name into the text field indicated "Author". If it is no longer desired that a certain user can modify the document, he is simply removed from the list and the restriction will begin after you apply the set access authorities. Individual author names are separated by a comma or space.

Users who are not authors can modify a document but only when one of the authors has allowed it. The switch set located in the lower part of the screen displays an exact definition of permitted actions.

Document Copying

The function "Document copying" can transfer a document to another place in the document tree of the publication. The copying proceeds this way – to note the reference to the copied document – to save the noted document as a subdocument. At first you must choose and "accept" the location of the currently displayed document you want to copy. The document "acceptance" itself is made by the "Accept" button. In the text field "Name", you will see the name of this document or subdocument intended for copying. This name can be modified now to assure the document will be safe by storing it under another identifier. Finally the target document should be selected, where this copy is to be saved as a subdocument.

It is possible to specify with the switches if only the document itself will be copied or if all its subdocuments will be transferred as well. If a document is copied to one of its subdocuments, the document itself is the only thing transferred even if the transfer subdocument request is switched on.

Picture Selection

The possibility of inserting a picture in a document is under the condition of a template supporting this attribute. Otherwise even if a picture is selected, it may not be displayed in the page.

If a clipart database exists for the given publication, the picture list in this clipart database will be displayed in the right part of the dialogue panel. By clicking an arbitrary item from this list the appropriate picture will appear and the URL address of the selected picture as well in the lower big text field. As long as the database is not defined, the address of an external picture can be entered into the text field. If the address is incorrect or the picture is damaged the error message "Bad picture" will appear in the preview area.

Below the picture preview there is a small text field intended for a picture title/description definition. The template must support application of this text.

In the left side of the dialogue panel there is a set of switches intended for picture alignment on the page. Remember that the applied template must support values set by this switch.
