Install
1. Double-click secdirsetup.exe to execute it.
2. Setup will guide you through the rest of the installation process.
Uninstall
Choose Uninstall from the Folder Security Personal program group.
OR:
1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
2. Double-click the "Add/Remove programs" icon.
3. Search the list for the item "Folder Security Personal" and double-click on it.
Method 1: Using Step By Step Protect Wizard
Step 1: Click the "Files/Folders" tab on the left pane
Step 2: Click the "Protect" button on the Toolbar
Step 3: Select a protection. There three options available: Hide & Block, Block, and Read-Only.
Hide & Block: The protected files and folder will be invisible and inaccessible.
Block: The protected files and folder will be visible and inaccessible.
Read-Only: The protected files and folder will be read-only.
Method 2: Using drag-and-drop operation
Step 1: Click the "Files/Folders" tab on the left pane
Step 2: Open Windows Explorer
Step 3: Select files and folders that you want to protect
Step 4: Drag the selected files and folders, then drop them on Folder Security Personal
Step 5: A dialogbox will appear and asks you to choose a protection
Step 1: Click the "Local Hard Disks" tab on the left pane
Step 2: Select the items you want to protect, then click the "Block" button
Note: Folder Security Personal will not allow you to block the system partition because this will cause boot failure when Windows reboots.
Step 1: Click the "External Drives" tab on the left pane
Step 2: Select the items you want to protect, then click the "Block" button
Note: Blocking an external drive means accesses to all drives of that type will be denied. For example, you have 3 CD-Roms connected to your computer, blocking CD-Roms means accesses to all these 3 CD-Rom drives will be denied.
Step 1: Click the "Special Folders" tab on the left pane
Step 2: Select the items you want to protect, then click "Hide", "Block", or "Read-Only" button to protect them.
Special Folders includes:
1. The "My Documents" folder
2. The Favorites folders
3. Windows Desktop

Step 1: Make sure the "Current State" of the to be used items are "Unlocked"

Q1: Do I need to disable or uninstall Folder Security Personal before doing disk defragment? A1: No. There is no need to disable Folder Security Personal in this case. Q2: Will some third-party file management tools (such as ZTreeWin) see the objects hidden by Folder Security Personal? A2: Absolutely Not! The protection mechanism of Folder Security Personal is build on system kernel level, it's unbreakable. Q3: Can I hide everything with Folder Security Personal? A3: No. Critical system files can't be hidden or blocked, or Windows won't boot correctly next time. Though Folder Security Personal checks whether an object can be protected or not and will give warning message, but users should be aware of this. Q4: What will happen if Folder Security Personal crashes or someone terminates the program? A4: The security kernel of Folder Security Personal is loaded and take effects almost as soon as Windows is started. What users see is just a GUI not the security kernel. Terminating the GUI process has no effects on security the protected objects. Q5: I have unlocked/unprotected an object, but still can't see it in the Windows Explorer? A5: Press F5 in Windows Explorer to refresh the display. Q6: I hide an object, but still can see the it in Windows Explorer. Why? A6: If Folder Security Personal is working under Automatic Mode, the hidden objects will be invisible only after the Folder Security Personal Program is closed. If Folder Security Personal is working under Manual Mode, the objects have been protected actually, just press F5 in Windows Explorer to refresh the display. Q7: Does Folder Security Personal works under DOS mode? A7: Folder Security Personal works under DOS frame, but doesn't work under TRUE DOS mode. Q8: What is the uninstallation password? A8: The password for uninstalling Folder Security Personal is the same as the one used to startup Folder Security Personal. Q9: I forgot my password. Will the hidden files lost? How to find them back in this case? A9: The hidden files WON'T be lost, but you will have to reinstall Windows to find them back. Q10: How to protect group of files and folders easily and quickly?
