Managing
queued file downloads
You can manage
the queued file downloads by the following methods:
- If
you want to find some download you can just type its name on the keyboard
and iGetter will find it automatically if it is in the selected filter's
queue.
- You can apply
the Resume, Pause or Delete operations over a multiple
downloads if you select them using the Shift button.
- iGetter
has three types of queue filters:
First type is on a Folder basis. Here you can specify an existing
folder from your hard drive, so every file in this folder that also coexist
in the iGetter queue will appear in the table.
You can use the contextual menu function 'Open folder' for every Folder
filter to open the real folder in the Finder.
You can add a new Folder filter by using the contextual menu function 'New
filter...' or by dragging and dropping any existing folder in the Finder
over the 'Folder' text.
If a download hyperlink from a browser web page or a file download in the
iGetter queue is dropped on a Folder filter, the download will be added directly
to this folder.
- Warnings: If you try to drag and drop some
file download from one Folder filter to another and there is a file with
the same name, the file will not be moved to the new Folder filter. And
if you try to drag and drop a new download hyperlink to any Folder filter
and there is a file with the same URL, this download will not be added
to the queue.
Second filter type is on a File extension basis. Here you can
specify different file extensions for every 'Filter'. These filters show only
files from the queue that have extensions identical to the determined in the
filter.
Third is on a Download status basis. If you want to see the
downloads separated on their status state, you can specify filters on the
defined status states.
- When
you click on the Automatic downloading button the appropriate
number of simultaneous files begin to download automatically. The number of
downloads is set in Preferences -> General tab ->
Max auto downloads. The logic of the automatic downloading consists in
downloading queued files by priority and order of adding. If automatic downloading
is ON and some download is finished, the next in the queue will be started.
- Pause
all - this function will pause all running downloads and put them
in pending state.
- iGetter
allows you to resume every individual file download. If you got part of a
file, iGetter will restart the download at the point where it is broken so
iGetter only gets the rest of the file, without having to restart from the
beginning. This makes downloading of your files much easier and faster.
To resume a download you can select the file in the iGetter Main Window and
click the 'Start Download' button or you can choose the 'Start
Download' menu item from the 'Downloads' menu. Also you can pull down the
contextual menu (by Ctrl+mouse click) and choose 'Start', or you can click
the 'Start Download' button in the File Status Details Window of this download.
- Pause
download - with this function you can pause the selected download for later
downloading. Paused downloads will not be included in automatic downloading.
The only way this file can be downloaded, in the current session, is to use
'Start download'.
- You
can set priority of every download for automatic downloading.
Every download on the queue table starts with priority button. You can select
from six levels of priority.
- Redial
if disconnected - this function is intended for PPP modem connections
to the Internet. If you set this function to ON, iGetter will automatically
reconnect your modem conforming to settings in the PPP Tab
Panel in Preferences. You must have at least one default PPP configuration
in the PPP control panel to allow iGetter to redial your modem.
- iGetter
can Hang Up the PPP connection and/or Shut down
the computer when all downloads in the queue are finished. Just click the
button for the appropriate function in the Main Window to set it up.
- Transfer
Details - the disclosure triangle opens to reveal the graphical chart
of the download, transfer details of FTP/HTTP connection for every segment
or the mirrors panel for searching of server mirrors for the selected download.
Choosing 'Chart' item you will see the dynamic chart of the download,
where the white drops represent the 4kB pieces of the file awaiting for download.
Red drops point to the actual download size for every segment. Blue drops
represent the already downloaded parts of the file download.
If you choose any segment item in the Transfer Details table you will
see all header requests to the server and server responses to iGetter for
the chosen segment. This information will be useful to people with advanced
knowledge of FTP and HTTP transfer protocols.
Choosing the mirrors panel will give you opportunity
to search and add server mirrors found in the iGetter Search Center. To search
for mirrors just push the 'Search' button and iGetter will show you all the
possible server mirrors for the download. You can manually choose the appropriate
location to the file. In the mirrors table you will see the server location,
file size and if it is a HTTP location the file date. You can set on only
those URLs that you desire to be included in the downloading process. If you
choose all server locations iGetter automatically will associate mirror URLs
to the segments beginning from the first mirror in the table. iGetter will
use the main download URL to determine the file size and resume characteristics.
Note that the file mirrors service is switched off if the 'Share mirror info'
option in the Advanced panel of Preferences is off.
You can use the Verify mirror servers function
to check the response time from all mirror servers, to see if the mirror servers
support resuming (marked with a green mixed pause-play icon for resumable
servers and red play icon for unresumable servers) and to check if the mirror
hosted file exists anymore (marked with a broken 'x' icon).
The Zip preview function of iGetter allows you to
view the content of any file compressed in zip format before to download it.
The Preview function just downloads the part of the file that includes the
content of the compressed file. Note that this function will work only if
the server supports resuming.
- Data
transfers Monitor - this graphical chart monitor represents the speed
of data download transfer. Red levels indicate maximum capacity. The scale
is adjusted by the fastest data receiving.
