Using the thumbtack

    "Using the what?" you wonder.

The thumbtack is a small button in the upper right of the player info window. It allows you to more precisely control the use (or more specifically, the reuse) of these windows.

Normally if you request player info for a player, and there is already a player info window open for another player, the new player will replace the old player and reuse the window that's already open. This prevents accumulating too many player info windows on your screen.

There are times when you may want to have multiple player info windows, however, and the thumbtack allows you to do this. When you depress the thumbtack, the player info window will not be reused, and if there are no player info windows with the thumbtack "out", MacFIBS will create a new window.

The player info window is not tacked to the current player. The window will be reused if necessary.
The player info window is tacked to the current player, and will not be reused for another player.

This is easier to see by playing with it than it is to describe it in words. Just remember, you don't have to use thumbtacks, but they are there if you choose to use them.

By the way, thumbtacks are often found in Unix application software. It was later adopted by Metrowerks CodeWarrior, from which I decided to add it to MacFIBS--an example of user interface ideas cross-pollinating from one OS to another.
