I n t r o d u c t i o n

Welcome! This archive contains a complete theme package in the Aliens (Fox Entertainment) motif. Most of the sounds and images in this archive were gathered from a variety of sites on the internet, and others were created from scratch. However, all materials were cleaned-up and reformatted specifically for this archive.

MyWB98This archive is as complete a theme as is possible (to my knowledge) on the Amiga - it contains a boot-sequence, icons, requester and event sounds, and backdrops, etc. To the right is a picture of my environment (click on it to enlarge). Note that I am also using Prolite-style icons designed by Eric van Velthooveen (check out his very nice home-page at http://www.stack.nl/~eric/prowb.html).

First off, it should be noted that the contents of this archive were designed for an 800x600x256 display (however, you may adapt them to suit your needs). Installation should be fairly easy: everything in this archive is stored in the directory where it belongs on your system (i.e. the Stuff in DOpus5/Themes should go into your DOpus5:Themes directory).

There are, essentially, four components to this theme:

  1. a Directory Opus theme
  2. some NewIcons icons
  3. a multimedia boot script written for RainBoot
  4. and sounds for requester events played by SoundJunkie and KeyReq
Each of the above pieces of software must be installed as stated in their respective documentation, however, you may install selected pieces of this archive, if you do not want everything (i.e. if you only want to install the DOpus5 theme, then only copy the files located in DOpus5/).

1. Directory Opus Magellan II (by GPSoftware) is required to use the Alien.theme (in DOpus5/Themes/) - it contains several sounds and images to enhance your environment (see mine above).

2. The three icons included in NewIcons/ (which are obviously designed for NewIcons) were designed for RAM, Work, and System, but you may rename them and use them for whatever you wish. Note that these icons are currently Project icons and must be changed to Disk icons (if that is how you intend to use them - you may use DOpusM2 to do this).

Alien RainBoot 3. RainBoot (by AirsoftSoftwair) is used to run the Alien bootup script (in RainBoot/Configs/Aliens/Alien.config). A sample of the bootup screen is shown to the right (click on the image to enlarge). The Alien RainBoot script also requires the quartz1.font (supplied in fonts/) - put this in your fonts: assign.

4. Finally, KeyReq (by Georg Steger) allows you to customize the way that your requesters look/act and when used in conjunction with SoundJunkie (by George Hornmoen), you are able to assign sounds to various requester events. I have included my SoundJunkie config (in AliensTheme/S/Junkie.config), and you may use it as is, or reconfigure it to your liking.

Just as a security blanket, I have also included my startup-sequence in the s/ drawer (I do not have a user-startup, so everything is in there). You should not need it, but you might want to look at it just to see how I call each program (and for configuration). But PLEASE read the documentation that comes with each of the above mentioned software packages - I did ;-)
