Tango may be started from workbench or shell.
From shell tango should be started with:
RUN Samba:Tango/Tango
Tango accepts the argument HIDE (Start Iconified).
General usage:
Some of the gadgets/lists have bubblehelp.
"Set" Local-directorys or saveing prefs will disable the readme.
Filehandler:
There is 2 configureable local directorys named Download and Upload,
Pressing the "Rewind" button recalls the preset directory.
Pressing the "Record" button will save the current directory as default.
Note! This will also save the current prefrences.
when you copy files from a network share it will go to the active local directory.
You could use tango's basic internal filehandler to do the most common commands.
If you have the "browse"-button on when leaving a share with "Parent" or "Mother" it gets de-connected.
You can also connect and disconnect drives (stored and active) from the "Drives" page.
Tango mounts shares as part of the amiga-filesystem so you can also use the shares
from workbench or any other filehandlers.
Now you have your workgroup displayed in the "Network" frame.
Your should see your own computer as well as some others. (If you got friends that is..)
Now you can double-click on a computer and you will get a list of shares available on that
computer. And it will look something like this:
Here we have some shared drives and printers.
If you doubleclick on a drive, it will be mounted as part of your filesystem.
The networkframe will switch to the "Current drive" page. (As default, there are other options
in prefs.)
Host:
From the "Host" stringinput-gadget you can search a computer by name
or IP-number.
When you select a printer you get some choices:
GFX - use GFX-Mode (not sending eol/eof).
BP -busypointer, shows an busy pointer while sending data.
Redirect -Redirects the standard AMIGA-printer driver to the net printer.
This "steals" your paralell-port ( PAR: ).
You can also connect and disconnect printers (stored and active) from the "Printers" page. You won't have anything on this page except for "PAR:" (Your paralell-port.). Unless you allready have connected to a printer. Once you have a printer in the list you have some options. Double-clicking a printer will redirect everything sent to "PAR:" to that printer, making it the default printer. The printer currently in use has a check-mark. If you select "PAR:" redirection stops and you can use the parallel-port as usual. It's convinient to shift between printer here. You have four more choises with the cycle button. "Remove" Removes a printer from the list. "Remove all connected" Removes all connected printers, These are shown with bold fonts "Automountable" Stores the mountlist for this printer, These can be mounted automaticly by tango at startup (see prefrences). "Favourites" Also stores mountlists, shown with Italic font . You use these options by selecting a printer, choosing a action with the cycle-gadget and pressing "OK". With one exeption, do not select anything when "Remove all connected". The "Drives" page and internal filehandlers works in a similar manner. Tango prefrences.
Misc If you are the lonely kind of person you might want tango to start in "entire network" instead of workgroup. If everything runs smooth you may be getting bored by the messages at startup. Start tango iconified, the shell argument has higher priority. Reconnect Here we decide what will happen with drives and printers that are saved as "automountable". Note that automatic reconnection of the above only should be made from a server-computer, that is to say at least one that is always on. Default on reconnect If you have a printer selected here (Default is "PAR:") It will automaticly redirect printouts when mounted. Security As default tango does not use a username for connections. You could use your normal username or enter somethting other. As smb-handler only promts for passwords, this is where you set an"other" username. Use IP to connect Enabling this will add the remote-host's ip-addresses to their mountlists. Might be useful fore some that have trouble connecting to shares. Use SMBFS to mount drives IF you like to use smbfs instead of smb-handler to mount drives. Gui Here you decide what filehandler should be used when connecting to a disk-share. You can show/hide the internal filehandler at startup. Have a OS3.5 directory opened. Open a magellan lister. Or have a shell opened and connected. Show-settings: Here you can decide what should be shown. Some are not implemented yet.
You should first read the Tango guide and Notes sections.
Tango searches for network/hosts three times before giving up.
If you get a lot of warning-signs this may be because smbd/nmbd doesn't have enough stack.
If you don't have a entry for your hostname in the "hosts" setting of your tcp/ip-stack
nmblookup may not work corecctly.
Notes!
If you haven't used a "microsoft network" before you should know it's quirks.
The "microsoft network" works fine when no computers are added or removed from
the network ( power-up/downs, resets ).
If something changes it may take up to 15 minutes before the network have reconfigured.
During that time parts of the network may be unavailable.
Hitting the Update-button will reread current status of the network.
Sometimes this means a lot of "Update"'s before the network re-shapes,
or just wait.
