Tango Guide

  Introduction:
Tango is the eqvivalent of the Network icon in windows.
With Tango you get "easy to use" file and printer sharing between networked computers
 running "microsoft network" compatible software.
In short you can by point'n click share files between networked computers running
 almost any OS.

More exactly Tango is a gui for samba and smb-handler.
It's works mostly by passing dos-comands ( Not a very elegant programming teqnic but a
normal user would never see the diffrence).

Locale: Tango does not have a internal catalog. So if your language isn't supported you need to add one that is to Prefs:locales. Tango is more or less fully localiced, but all locales are not updated. If you should wish to make locales for other languages or update the current, this is how to do it.. First note that I have no use for "hacked" locales as I then must retype them. Do not upload locales yourself. (Don't litter aminet with locales.) Send them to me and I'll include them in the archive with credit. Since this release the catalog-descriptions (.cd) are included in the archive. You will need the following programs. Catool Gui for Catcomp. Catcomp Copy catcomp to c: Start catool. "Project/Load" tango.cd Add your language. only edit the "Translation:" field. "Project/Save". Do the same for share You only have to send me the new tango_(your language).ct And share_(your language).ct If you want to test your catalog: "Project/Update Ext.".( you must save first) If you had tango started before updateing you must do a "avail flush" or reboot for tango to load the new locale. Futures: Browse "microsoft network" shares. Search computers. *NEW* Share directorys. Buildt in filehandler with basic commands, ( Copy, Rename, Makedir, Delete ) or open the shares in a Shell/ OS3.5 window/ Magellan lister. Automaticly mounts/un-mounts shares. Mounts printers and let you set/change a "default" printer. May be iconified at startup. Tango does not handle passwords, but user-independent passwords are handeld by smb-handler, observe that smbhandler does not encrypt the passwords. Requirements: Needs: MUI - Magic User Interface. Mui is © by Stefan Stuntz. NList.mcc © 1996-1998 Gilles Masson IconMCC and defaulticons for the share-utility. Samba (tested with Samba2.0.6 from aminet) SMB-Handler (tested with version 0.12ß). "Samba:bin/Die" from the SMB-Handler archive. Another version of SMB-Handler is in the SMB-Connect archive. Tcp/IP (Miami/Amitcp, wo) OpenURL.library The above programs correctly installed and configured. Tcp/ip up and running, prefably autostarted at boot. Options: SMBFS could be used to mount drives instead of SMB-Handler, You will still need SMB-Handler for printers. Some standard workbench programs: C:Copy C:Delete C:Mount Sys:tools/cmd Sys:Rexxc/RX Installation: The installer installs to Samba:, and that is where it need to bee. You might want to read the Locale section berore you install. Credits : Thanks to: Wouter for amiga-E. Stefan Stuntz for mui. Gilles Masson for NList.mcc. Piru, Trekkie and Linkan for help, ß-testing and suggestions. Christian Haldenwang for French locales. Some other people for locales (lost the names). Disclaimer: If you are the kind of person who would dry your cat in a microwave-owen then this is definitley for you.
