Requiring a password before a Bluetooth device can connect

You can set up Bluetooth to require other Bluetooth devices to authenticate themselves before making connections to your computer. Devices need to be authenticated only once, and then they are paired. The devices will stay paired until the pairing is deleted.

To require a password:

  1. Open System Preferences and click Bluetooth.
  2. Click Settings and select Require Authentication.

When another Bluetooth device attempts to send you a file or connect to your computer, it will be asked to enter a password before it can send the file. The same password needs to be entered on both devices.
