Jasmine audio files are of two types, Sound Files and Edit Files. They are stored in the Jasmine application folder titled ~Sound. It is recommended that you save all Jasmine files in this folder.

To open an existing Jasmine File choose Open from the File menu. Choosing New from the File menu will open a blank tape window that you can paste sound copied from other Jasmine files with Edit Menu functions.

Sound files are created only when sound is first recorded with Jasmine. The actual sound data is stored in the Sound files. Sound consumes disk space at a rate of approximately 10 mb per minute (16 bit 44.1kHz) stereo. You are limited to the Copy edit operation with these files. Normally you will not work with Sound files unless, for some reason you need to copy to the clipboard some or all of the originally recorded content.

Edit files are created both at the time of recording and when New is chosen from the File menu and that tape window is saved. Edit files support complete Cut, Copy and Paste operations so most of your work will be done on these files.

Edit files refer to Sound files. It is therefore important not to delete a Sound file until all Edit files that refer to it are deleted.

Jasmine exports AIFF files with the Mixdown function. This file format is compatible with a number of other sound applications including several mp3 encoders. Apple's iTunes encodes mp3's (and it is free!)

With Import Convert, you can use Jasmine to work with non-Jasmine audio files like mp3, AIFF, WAV etc.

To store your work in Jasmine, see Saving.
