active tape window - a tape that can be edited and faded by Jasmine

ballistic wind - A gradually accelerated playback, in either direction. Rapid and precise method of cueing.

clipboard - temporary storage area accessed with the edit menu functions.

cue point, cue position, cue time - All describe the point displayed at the center of the tape display. The point at which playback will begin. Its time is shown in the lower center of the tape window.

cueing - The process of locating a particular cue time in a file (or files when multi-track is enabled

dB - Decibel, a standard unit for indicating sound volume. If sound A is 6 dB louder than sound B, sound A is twice as loud.

edit file - Jasmine file on which all edit operations and fading can be performed.

fader control - the control that adjusts the volume at the cue time. During playback the fader's levels are remembered.

fader indicator - indicates the volume in dB of the tape at the cue point.

overdub - recording a new track while listening to the other tracks.

scrub - Manual and audible movement of the "tape" used for precise cueing.

sound file - Jasmine file that contains actual sound data. Only the copy edit function is supported

tape - the file's sound from beginning to end.

tape display - The part of the tape window that shows sound from four seconds before to four seconds after the cue time.

tape duration - the length of time for a Jasmine file shown in the lower right of the tape window.

tape window - Each time a Jasmine opens a file, it creates a tape window. This window shows the sound near the cue point.

time colon format - the way time and sound duration are expressed in Jasmine. The format is as follows: [hours]:[minutes]:[seconds].[100'ths of a second]

timeline - the control just below the tape display that shows the cue point. It extends from the beginning of the tape on the left to the end of the tape on the right. The slider indicates the cue point within the tape.

selection - a portion of a tape that is highlighted. It is used for editing, certain mix functions and a special mode of playback.

selection duration -the length of the selection shown in the lower left of the tape window.
