To record first select the audio input by choosing the appropriate item in the Record Menu.

The input sound can be level adjusted, compressed and/or expanded by choosing Gain Processing ... from the Record Menu.

Type command-R (or just R) or click the ‘R’ button on an open tape window to begin recording. Recording will continue until you press space bar or click '•' button at the bottom center of the Recording... window.

Upon completion you will be prompted to name the recording. If you cancel, no new files will have been created. If you name the recording (or accept the default name) there will be two new Jasmine files in the ~Sound folder, a Sound file and an Edit file. The Edit file tape window will open cued to the beginning of the recording.

Overdub is the ability to record a new track while listening to the existing tracks (those tape windows that are currently open).

The default recording mode is Mono. Switch to Stereo by choosing it in the Record Menu. Subsequent recordings will be in the mode last chosen. Jasmine currently defaults to Mono when it is launched.

With MacOS 9, direct digital recording of CD's from the internal CD-ROM drive is possible using the Digital CD Input item of the Record Menu. Then, begin recording. When you then play the CD (Apple's CD player is recommended), the audio content will be imported. The CD Player should be available from the Control Strip.

If you are using MacOS X, Digital CD Input will probably not be an available device option. But, in OS X, you have the ability to open a CD track from the Open... command on the File menu. The track will be imported automatically, so playing the CD is unnecessary.
