How to Set Up Pings

When sending a new or edited post to your weblog, MarsEdit can send ÒpingsÓ to sites such as blo.gs, technorati.com, and weblogs.com.

What are pings? A ping is a little message from MarsEdit that tells a service that your weblog has updated. Some services have a list of the most-recently-updated weblogs, or they like to index recently-updated weblogs.

This is configured per weblog, since you may not want to send pings for all your weblogs, or you might want to send to different places.

  1. Select weblog you want to configure in the Weblogs drawer in the main window.
  2. Click the Edit button at the bottom of the window.
  3. In the weblog settings window, clicking the Pings tab.
  4. Check the checkbox next to URLs to which you want to send pings.

You can add and delete ping URLs via the + and - buttons below the ping URLs list.

Some ping URLs come already filled in for you. For reference, here are the home pages of the built-in sites you can ping:

blo.gs
technorati.com
weblogs.com
