Advanced Web Ranking User Guide

Chapter 12. Global Preferences

The Advanced Web Ranking Preferences allows you to specify settings that apply to the entire application, changing and customizing the behaviour in accordance with your requirements.

You can access the Global Preferences from the toolbar button, by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P or by selecting [Options] -> [Preferences...] from the Main Menu.

Application

  • Data Folder.

This tab allows you to change the location of the folder where Advanced Web Ranking keeps its data. When you press the [OK] button, all the data from the old folder is moved to the new folder automatically.

  • Show continuous lines in the Rank Evolution chart.

By default, when a URL is not found in the results gathered from the search engine, it is said to be dropped. In the Rank Evolution chart this is shown as a gap in the graph line associated with that URL. If you do not want to see a gap when an URL is dropped, just make sure this preference is checked.

  • Automatic search engine updates.

If this preference is checked, the application checks for a new version of the search engine definition file every time it is started. If an update is available, it is downloaded to your computer, and a message box will be displayed asking you to restart the application. It is recommended that you always have this option checked.

If this preference is not checked, the application will display a dialog box (like the one below) every time it detects that a new search engine update is available. If you choose not to install the update right away, you will be reminded again the next time you launch the application.

[Note]Note

In case there is an update available, and the application is launched (in the background) from the scheduler, the update is downloaded and installed regardless of the value of the above preference.
