Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Automatically Opening iClip When Your Computer Starts-up

Q: How can I make it so that iClip automatically opens when my computer starts-up?

A: You can make iClip (or any other application) automatically open when your computer starts-up by adding to your list of Startup Items. To do so, open System Preferences, then click the Accounts icon located in the System section. Make sure your account is selected, then click the Startup Items tab. You can then add iClip to the list that appears. Please note that if you’re using Mac OS X 10.2, the procedure is slightly different as you need to click the Login Items icon located in the Personal section of System Preferences to do this.

Backing-up Your Clippings

Q: I’d like to back-up all my clippings that are stored in iClip. Where are the clippings stored?

A: iClip stores its clippings in a file named iClip Clippings.clipdb which is located in your Preferences folder. To access it, open your Home folder, then open the Library folder located inside it, then open the Preferences folder located inside it.

Text Clippings Lose Formatting

Q: Why do my text clippings lose any formatting they had after I edit them?

A: This is a current limitation of iClip. Editing a text clipping will convert it to plain text. In the future, we plan to allow editing of text clippings in a way that will preserve their formatting.

Clipping Sets Separators

Q: I have lots of clipping sets and I’d like to use separators in the clipping sets pop-up menu to help keep them organized. Is this possible?

A: This is a feature we plan to incorporate into iClip in the future, but there’s a workaround for doing this now. Create a clipping set with only a hyphen (-) for it’s name and it will appear as a separator in the pop-up menu.
