<P> Figures to be inserted later should be handled using L<SMALL>A</SMALL>T<SMALL>E</SMALL>X's <code>figure</code> environment. The amount of space left should equal the exact height of the figure. Extra space around the figure will be provided automatically. The positioning of figures may need to be changed to obtain the best possible page layout. Thus it is important to label your figures and use the labels in the text when referring to figures. The figure caption should be positioned below the figure.
<P> In most cases, figures will be rendered for consistency of style within a book. Please provide figure manuscript drawn in black ink with clean, unbroken lines on nonabsorbent paper.
<P> <P> <DIV><B>Example 5.1</B> For the link in Figure <A HREF="node8_ct.html#firstfig"><IMG ALT="[*]" SRC="crossref.png"></A>, the Massey product <!– MATH 〈u1, u2, u3, u4, u5〉 –> 〈<I>u</I>1, <I>u</I>2, <I>u</I>3, <I>u</I>4, <I>u</I>5〉 in <I>S</I>3 - <I>L</I> is defined and consists of all integer multiples of <!– MATH γ1, 5 –> <I>γ</I>1, 5. For the link in Figure <A HREF="node8_ct.html#firstfig"><IMG ALT="[*]" SRC="crossref.png"></A>, the Massey product <!– MATH 〈u1, u2, u3, u4, u5〉 –> 〈<I>u</I>1, <I>u</I>2, <I>u</I>3, <I>u</I>4, <I>u</I>5〉 in <I>S</I>3 - <I>L</I> contains the single element <!– MATH γ1, 5 –> <I>γ</I>1, 5. Since the links in Figures <A HREF="node8_ct.html#firstfig"><IMG ALT="[*]" SRC="crossref.png"></A> and <A HREF="node8_ct.html#otherfig"><IMG ALT="[*]" SRC="crossref.png"></A> are homotopic, the example indicates that Massey products in <I>S</I>3 - <I>L</I> with distinct <I>u</I>j's do not, in general, determine homotopy invariants of the link. For the link in Figure <A HREF="node8_ct.html#firstfig"><IMG ALT="[*]" SRC="crossref.png"></A> and the link in Figure <A HREF="node8_ct.html#otherfig"><IMG ALT="[*]" SRC="crossref.png"></A>, the Massey product <!– MATH 〈u1, u2,..., u5〉 –> 〈<I>u</I>1, <I>u</I>2,..., <I>u</I>5〉 in <!– MATH {S3 - Li}i=15 –> <I>S</I>3 - <I>L</I>ii=15 contains the single element <!– MATH γ1, 5 –> <I>γ</I>1, 5.</DIV><P></P>
