Definitions Case sensitive - Capitalization is relevant
Example: If checked, AccessLog will match only AccessLog, and not accesslog.
Match substring - Will match any file names that contain the specified string.
Example: access will match access_log, htaccess and accesses
Exact match - Will match only the exact letters in the proper order.
Example: Access will match Access but not accesses or access_log.
Unresolved client address - This means that your server was not able to convert the numbers used by the internet protocol into text. In other words, the only available address at the current time is a numerical one.


Deliver my Report If you check e-mail delivery of report, you will receive a formatted report. Do not check BOTH e-mail delivery AND tab delimited unless you want two reports, a formatted report and a tab delimited report.


Name my SurfReport This will be the name of your final output file after you run SurfReport.


Daily Averages The total number of hits for the report period divided by the number of days covered in the report period.


Hourly Averages This reports the average number of hits per hour over the total number of days covered in the report period.

Visitor Report Visitor - You can read this section as "Show me the top 'X' visitors to my site, but only if they logged at least 'Y' hits to it". This can be useful if you want all visitors that had at least a certain number of hits to your site. If you do not want a report on these values, enter "0" in the top visitor field.
Companies - The user can enter any number to view the top companies accessing the site. If you do not want a report on these values, enter "0" in the top companies field.
Countries - The user can enter any number to view the top countries accessing the site. If you do not want a report on these values, enter "0" in the top countries field.


Origins of
Visitors
If your web server has this capability, SurfReport will tell you the top places from which people jumped to your site. This is the "referer file".


File Report You can read this as "Show me the top 'X' files accessed on my site, but only if they were accessed at least 'Y' times. This can be useful if you want to see all files accessed at least a certain number of times. If you do not want a report on these values, enter "0" in the top files field.
Display For this section, the choice of "HTML files only" will count only files which have the suffix ".htm" or ".html". Other files such as graphics, audio, sound and cgi. etc. will not be included in the report. "All files" will include every type of file.
Document Titles - With this checked, SurfReport will list results of file queries using the title as listed in the .html file; i.e. the section between the <TITLE> tags.
File Names - With this checked, SurfReport will list results of file queries with the name of the file and the path as stored on the host machine.

Specific
Visitor Report
Use this field to get a detailed report on particular a visitor(s) who accessed your site.


Visitor Filter Use this field to exclude from the report visitors that you do not want included.


Specific
File Report
Use this field to list all visitors which accessed a particular file(s) by entering the file name. (Must be the actual file name - not the html title).


File Filter Use this field to exclude from the report file(s) that you do not want included. (Enter the actual file name - not the html title).

Browsers If your web server reports this information, SurfReport will report the type of browser your visitors are using to access your site.


Operating Systems If your web server reports this information, SurfReport will report the operating system of the machine your visitor used to connect to your site.

Process Files for If entire period is checked, SurfReport will process all uncompressed log files specified without regard to dates appearing in the file entries. Once you know what time period the log files cover, you can specify that SurfReport report on a particular time period within the total period covered. You can use the "From" and "To" pull-down menus to select your particular time period. Be sure to also select the "The period:" radio button if you wish to use this feature.


Access
Log Files
You must know the name of the log files in order to run a report. Most files are called access_log or some combination thereof, but if you don't know the names of your log files, ask your system administrator for assitance.


Password Whoever installed SurfReport had the option to assign a password so that SurfReport could not be run without it. This password was specified in the configuration file. If nothing was specified, you do not need a password to run SurfReport.

Launch SurfReport This button is located on the top and bottom of the page, and will start SurfReport running with the settings as entered on the page.


Reset Defaults This button will reset the values on this page to the original default settings.
