The left column shows images of the models before smoothing, while the right column displays models after our smoothing technique. Here we see an excellent application for our fairing technique. Given noisy data from a 3 dimensional scanning device, our technique is able to produce a much smoother model.

Above is a color plot of the curvature of the head. Blue indicates low curvature while red indicates higher curvature. One can readily see that the fairing smoothes the areas of high curvature.

By using the implicit fairing technique with our curvature operator, we were able to smooth the decimated spock mesh into the smooth version on the right. Note that, although the sharp edges have been smoothed, details such as the wrinkles in the face and the crease by the lips still remain. |
