Walking Tours
Bryggen by Foot (tel: 5558 8010; fax: 5558 8050; e-mail: eli.rodseth@bmu.uib.no; website: www.uib.no/bmu) is the only guided walking tour in Bergen. The tour concentrates on the city's 900-year history and includes a visit to the Bryggens and Hanseatic museums. English-language tours depart daily from Bryggens Museum at 1100 and 1300 between 1 June and 31 August. And cost: NOK70 (concessions available).

Bus Tours
Gaia Trafikk (tel: 5555 4400; fax: 5555 4494; e-mail: mail@gaiatrafikk.no; website: www.gaiatrafikk.no) runs two regular tours daily from May to September, which leave from the Tourist Information Centre. One, departing at 1000, includes stops at Old Bergen Museum and Troldhaugen, while the other (departure at 1400) takes in Troldhaugen and the Fantoft Stave Church. Both cost NOK230 (concessions available) and last about three hours.

Boat Tours
Run by Bergen Fjord Sightseeing (tel: 5525 9000; fax: 5525 9001), these provide excellent views of Bergen's colourful houses and of the seven mountains that surround the city. The MS White Lady leaves the Torget daily at 1430 between mid-May and the end of August. The trip lasts an hour and costs NOK80 (concessions available).

Air Tours
Fonnafly (tel: 5532 4785; fax: 5532 8090; e-mail: fonna-17@online.no; website: www.fonnafly.no) organises tailor-made trips from Sandviken, 1.5 kilometres (one mile) north of Bergen. A 25-minute tour in a seaplane, for up to four passengers, costs NOK1600. A 50-minute flight into the largest and most spectacular fjord of Hardanger costs NOK3250.
