There are approximately 5000 hotel rooms in Cardiff. Guesthouses and B&Bs (situated mainly around Cathedral Road to the west of the centre or Newport Road to the east), provide a cost-effective alternative. Cardiff University (tel: (029) 2087 4027) rents out single, self-catering rooms during university holidays. The Cardiff Visitors Centre (tel: (029) 2022 7281) at 16 Wood Street provides an information and reservation service for a £1 booking fee. St David's Hotel & Spa has the dual honour of being both the first five-star hotel in Wales and the first hydrotherapy centre in Britain. The glittering concrete and glass building dominates the skyline at the western end of the waterfront development and each of its 136 bedrooms has an unobstructed view across the bay. Martin Green from The Connaught Hotel in London is the executive chef in the Tides bar and restaurant. There is an extensive health suite with staff ready to provide holistic lifestyle consultations. Other services include meeting and conference facilities with secretarial and interpreter services and limousine hire.

Cardiff's newest hotel offers five-star luxury overlooking Cardiff Castle and the city centre. Businesspeople will appreciate the executive lounge, and there is a fitness centre for unwinding. The Razzi Restaurant's Mediterranean menu features Welsh produce.

This modern luxury hotel is located to the south of Cardiff between the city and airport. It has 135 bedrooms and conference facilities for up to 300 delegates. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, solarium, gym and jacuzzi. The restaurant has a superb lake view.

This four-star hotel is located right opposite the World Trade Centre and Cardiff International Arena. It has 143 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant and lunch bar.

Cardiff Bay Hotel

Located on the waterfront near the Atlantic Wharf leisure complex, the hotel has 156 rooms (including suites) and ten function rooms, all fitted with ISDN and modem links. Secretarial services are available. Facilities include a restaurant and two bars, a snooker room and leisure club (with swimming pool, sauna and gym).

Angel Hotel

Situated in its own grounds to the north of the city, the Manor Parc Country Hotel offers 12 spacious bedrooms (some with four-poster beds), relaxing lounge area, and restaurant. The hotel can cater for up to 120 delegates. The grounds include tennis courts.
