Rail Via Rail (tel: (416) 366 8411; web site: www.viarail.ca) is Canada's national rail transport provider. Within Toronto, Via operates from the historic Union Station, 65 Front Street West, where tickets and information can be obtained in person. Facilities include restaurants, toilets, bars, lockers, shops, ATMs, bureaux de change, a business centre and car hire (Tilden). Rail services: Union Station is the main hub for GO Trains, overland trains providing frequent commuter service to the city's outlying suburbs, such as Mississauga and Scarborough. Via Rail runs services to a number of national destinations, including Montreal (4 hours and 45 minutes), Ottawa (4 hours) and Niagara Falls (1 hour and 45 minutes), as well as the United States via Niagara Falls. Transport to the city: Union Station is located in the heart of the city centre, and is also on the city's subway network. It is also close to the Gardner Expressway, an east-west lakeside motorway linking the city centre with outlying suburbs. |
