Tours of the City Walking Tours Strasbourg is an ideal size to be covered by foot and a trip round the Cathedral (particularly at night) and Petite France district is essential. The lush, grassy banks of the Ill River and the Fossé du Faux-Rempart canal afford views of the major sights. From April to December, the Central Tourist Office (tel: (03) 8852 2828; fax: (03) 8852 2829) organises guided tours of the Cathedral and Petite France, the main churches in Strasbourg and the German Quarter; as well as visits to the Christmas Market from late November to 31 December. The tours last 90 minutes and cost FFr38 (concessions available). Boat Tours The Port Autonome de Strasbourg, 15 rue de Nantes (tel: (03) 8884 1313; fax: (03) 8884 3313), organises cruises along the Ill and Rhine rivers from March to December. The Ill cruise (with commentary in English) departs from the Palais Rohan pier daily, all year round, lasts 75 minutes and costs FFr41 (concessions available). Other Tours The Central Tourist Office runs a Mini Train sightseeing service with multi-lingual commentary (1 July-18 September daily 0930-2000 every 30 minutes; 19 September-15 October daily 0930-1700 every 30 minutes; 16 October-1 November daily 1000-1700 every hour). It departs from the place du Château and costs FFr29 (adults) and FFr15 (children). |
