Rail State Railways of Thailand (tel: (02) 225 0341; web site www.srt.motc.go.th) have four lines all terminating in Bangkok. The main station in Bangkok is Hualampong on Rama IV Road (tel: (02) 223 0341 or 223 7010, advance bookings) and this serves most of the long-distance routes. Facilities at the station include bureau de change, ATM, left luggage, post office and hotel reservation service. It is advised to book tickets for long-distance trains in advance. Noi station across the river in Thonburi (tel: (02) 411 3102) serves Kanchanaburi and a few destinations to the south so check which station to depart from. A special Visit Thailand Rail Pass is available for B2000, which includes unlimited travel within Thailand and is valid for 20 days. Rail services: They are from Chiang Mai in the north, Nong Khai in the northeast, Pattaya in the east and from Surat Thani, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore in the south. |
