Water Israel is served by the major port of Haifa (situated about one hour north of Tel Aiv), run by the Ports and Railways Authority (PRA) (tel: (03) 565 7000; web site: www.israports.org.il). The port at Haifa is located near the railway station and has a passenger terminal with comprehensive facilities. Ferry services: Several shipping lines offer regular departures from Europe to the port of Haifa. Many Mediterranean cruises also include Israel in their itineraries. A regular ferry runs between Piraeus (Greece), via Rhodes (Greece) and Limmasol (Cyprus) to Haifa. J Caspi, 1 Ben Yehuda (tel: (03) 510 6834), and Mano Passenger Lines, 97 Ben Yehuda Street (tel: (03) 522 4611), both run weekly services. The London-based Viamare Travel (tel: (020) 7431 4560; web site: www.viamare.com) is one of the main ferry operators, offering routes from Italy, Greece and Cyprus to Haifa. Transport to the city: Trains from Haifa to Tel Aviv Central run approximately every hour and cost NIS19 (journey time -1 hour 15 minutes). |
