Accommodation Warsaw's 93 hotels (with a total of 18,500 beds) range from top-quality to communist-era hotels in varying stages of refurbishment or expansion; there are also guesthouses and private accommodation. There is a service charge of 10-15% on top of the 21% VAT usually already included. A hotel tax of 7% is also normally included in the rates. Many of the more business-orientated hotels offer cheaper weekend rates. The rates specified are in US Dollars due to fluctuation of the Zloty. The number of stars a hotel has is not always an accurate guide to the quality of accommodation in Warsaw. Many of the communist-era hotels are in the process of upgrading from two to three stars, but the rooms still tend to be somewhat spartan and the beds quite tiny.
