Water River: Boats and hydrofoils connect Budapest with domestic and international destinations. Hydrofoils arrive at the International Terminal adjacent to the Admiral Restaurant near Szabadság híd. Domestic arrivals are at the Vigadó Terminal, north of ErzsÉbet híd. For information in Budapest visitors should contact MAHART, (tel: (1) 484 4010; fax: (1) 318 7740; e-mail: mahartpass@aux.net) in the International Ship Station Building, V. Belgrád rakpart, or in Vienna, Handelskai 265 (tel: (1) 729 2161; fax: (1) 729 2163). Ferry services: Between April and early November there is a daily hydrofoil service run by MAHART linking Vienna to Budapest via Bratislava (except Sunday). The journey costs approximately US$75 and takes five hours from Vienna, along the River Danube to the heart of Budapest. Reservations must be made at least 21 days in advance to avoid a US$20 surcharge. A maximum limit of 20kg (44lbs) of luggage may be carried free of charge. Transport to the city: Passengers arriving by boat are advised to reserve a taxi through the shipping line, as none are readily available on the dock. |
