Accommodation Hotel accommodation ranges from modern deluxe high rises catering to the every whim of today's demanding businesspeople, to small, discreet canal-house hotels brimming with charm, which are perfect for a romantic weekend away. The equivalent of a B&B is hard to find in Amsterdam - it is certainly not as common as it is elsewhere in Europe - but reservations can be made through Bed and Breakfast Holland, T de Bockstraat 3, 1058 TV Amsterdam (tel: (020) 615 7527; fax: (020) 669 1573; e-mail: bbrholland@hetnet.nl). However, visitors are likely to find that the cheapest accommodation option in the city is a budget hotel. In total, Amsterdam has 27,000 hotel rooms. While this may sound like a large number, advance reservations are strongly recommended, particularly at weekends and in season (early spring to late autumn) when the city is bursting with visitors. As a result, the only time hotel discounts are available is in winter, between 15 November and 15 March. The Netherlands Reservations Centre provides a one-stop service for accommodation hunters (PO Box 404, NL-2260 AK Leidschendam; tel: (070) 419 5500; fax: (070) 419 5519; e-mail: info@hotelres.nl; web site: www.hotelres.nl). A telephone service is available 0800-2000 Monday-Friday and 0800-1400 Saturday. The Amsterdam Reservation Center also offers an advance booking facility (tel: 777 000 888). The other option, for those intending to stay in Amsterdam for some time, is to hire an apartment. Many of the hotels now have a number of apartments in-house, but there are also a number of conventional letting agencies renting out homes in apartment blocks (a couple are listed after the hotels below).
