Denver International Airport is 24 miles (38km) northeast of downtown. Covering an area twice the size of Manhattan, it opened in 1995 with five full-service runways. It has one terminal building with three concourses and services some 38 million passengers a year on international and domestic flights.

Major airlines:
Denver is a major hub with links to most American cities and major international destinations. American Airlines (tel: (800) 433 7300; web site: www.aa.com) operates most of the flights from Denver and 20 other airlines have a presence, including Air Canada, British Airways, Delta Airlines and United Airlines.

Approximate flight times to Denver:
From London is 9 hours 55 minutes; from New York is 3 hours 55 minutes; from Los Angeles is 2 hours; from Toronto is 4 hours 44 minutes and from Sydney is 19 hours 55 minutes.

Airport facilities:
Facilities include 24-hour bureau de change, ATMs, some 48 restaurants, snack bars and grills, and an extensive selection of over 60 retail outlets, including food stores, book shops and brand-name outlets. Advantage, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless and Thrifty all provide car hire services.

Business facilities:
The Qwest Business Centre (tel: (303) 317 0988) located on the Mezzanine level of Concourse B, offers a full range of facilities. Laptops are available for hire at Laptop Lane (tel: (303) 348 7560) and free internet access is available throughout the airport in kiosks operated by Get2Net Corp (tel: (303) 706 1470).

Transport to the city:
RTD's Skyride buses (tel: (303) 299 6000) operate from the airport to downtown and 28 other stops in the Metro Denver area. Costs range from US$4 to US$8. The service operates on an hourly basis 0400-2400. A number of shuttle buses also operate from the airport to downtown, including Airporter (tel: (303) 227 0000) and Supershuttle (tel: (303) 342 5454). The fare is about US$20 and the journey around 40 minutes. Most of the major hotels operate complimentary shuttle buses and taxis can be hailed outside the baggage claim area. The average fare to downtown is around US$40. Limousines can be prebooked from a number of companies including: Airport Car and Limousine of Denver (tel: (303) 861 0060) and Chadwick Limousine of Boulder (tel: (303) 473 0473).
