Cape Town International Airport is located 20km (12.4 miles) east of central Cape Town on the N2 Highway, and has direct flights to 23 major cities in 19 countries and handles 4.5 million passengers a year.

Major airlines:
Domestic airlines also include British Airways/Comair, Civair, Intensive Airlines, National Airlines, Sabena Nationwide, SA Airlink and SA Express. South African Airways (tel: (021) 936 1111) is the national airline. Other major carriers include Air France, Air Mauritius, British Airways, Egypt Air, KLM, LTU International, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Swissair, Turkish Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

Approximate flight times to Cape Town:
From London is 11 hours 20 minutes; from New York is 17 hours; from Los Angeles is 25 hours; from Toronto is 19 hours; and from Sydney is 16 hours.

Airport facilities:
These include foreign exchange, ATMs, executive car parking services, mobile phone hire, tourist information counters, restaurants, bars, snack bars, bookshops, duty-free shops, and first- and business-class lounges. Car hire providers include Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz.

Business facilities:
There are four business centres, accommodating between five and 30 people each. They have office facilities including e-mail, fax, telephones and photocopiers (tel: (021) 937 1233 or 1229).

Arrival/departure tax:
An airport tax of R25 is included in the price of all tickets, domestic and international, although this can vary according to the airline and the destination.

Transport to the city:
Metered taxis are available outside the airport at a cost of around R6 per kilometre. Intercape shuttle buses meet all flights: R30 to the city centre terminus, R90 door-to-door. Several other bus companies also operate door-to-door services at a cost of R100. There is no rail service from the airport. Most luxury and business hotels will, if notified in advance, provide transport to and from the airport.
