Water Singapore is the world's busiest port in terms of shipping tonnage. At any one time there are more than 800 ships in port. Visitors arrive at one of the three terminals of the Singapore Cruise Centre (tel: (65) 321 2202; fax: (65) 275 1683), or at the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal on the East Coast. While there are few facilities at Tanah Merah, the Singapore Cruise Centre, situated at the base of the World Trade Centre, is surrounded by shops and restaurants. Ferry services: There are regular ferries between Tanah Merah and the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan as well as Sebana and Tioman on the Malaysian coast. Ferries from the Singapore Cruise Centre go to Kukup in Malaysia, and Batam and Bintan. Transport to the city: The Singapore Cruise Centre is a ten-minute taxi ride from the city centre. Tanah Merah is served by regular public buses to Tanah Merah MRT station, as well as a peak-hour Bus-Plus service direct to the city centre. There is a Taxi Order Terminal outside the ferry terminal and taxis ordered charge an S$8 premium. |
