Tours of the City

Walking Tours: Singapore's humidity makes walking a rather strenuous activity, but there are times when the only way to really see the city is on foot. The Singapore Tourism Board produces free walking tour maps to areas including the Singapore River, Chinatown and Little India.

Bus Tours
: The Singapore Trolley, an imitation of the red trams of the 1920s, takes about one hour to tour 17 spots between Orchard Road, the colonial district and Clarke Quay, with running commentary. The fare (S$14.90) includes a free riverboat tour. There are six tours a day, departing Clarke Quay at 0945, 1045, 1245, 1345, 1500 and 1600.

Holiday Tours & Travel
(tel: (65) 734 7091) offer a three-and-a-half-hour orientation tour of the city. Tours leave at 0900 and 1400 daily and cost S$27. Their Singapore by Night tour, also three and a half hours, begins with dinner at Boat Quay, followed by a drive through the central business district to view the spectacular night skyline, and on to Bugis for a stroll along the night market. The tour ends with a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel and costs S$54. Departures are at 1830 daily.
