Rail

Although services are limited, the Moroccan state railway, ONCF (tel: (07) 776 520; web site: www.oncf.org.ma/voyageurs.htm) is reliable, cheap, comfortable and the best option for travelling between the major northern cities. The Marrakech railway station (tel: (04) 447 768), a handsome, colonial-era building, is on Avenue Hassan II, at the western edge of Guéliz. There are two classes of seats - first and second. First class usually ensures an air-conditioned carriage. All tickets can be booked in advance.

Rail services:
The Moroccan rail system runs along two branches: from Casablanca on the west coast to Oujda in the northeast, and from Tangier to Marrakech. The most used direct services to Marrakech are from Casablanca and Fez and the direct overnight service from Tangier, which has sleeping carriages.

Transport to the city:
The station is a five-minute walk along the Avenue Hassan II to the Place du 16 Novembre at the heart of Guéliz. From there, bus 3 or 8 go to Djemmaa-el-Fna.
