Public tours are at the weekend; prices start at US$10 (concessions available). Bus Tours New York Apple Tours (tel: (212) 944 9200) offers closed and open-topped double-decker buses tours calling at 48 stops. A full-city hop-on hop-off tour over two days costs US$39 (concessions available). Cruises Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises (tel: (212) 563 3200; web site: www.circleline.com) is the only cruise line that circles Manhattan Island with the three-hour narrated Full Island Cruise (cost: US$22). Other options include the two-hour Semi-Circle Cruise (cost: US$18) or the evening two-hour Harbor Lights Cruise (cost: US$15). At both Pier 83 and Pier 16, South Street Seaport, adventurers can take a spin on the Beast for a 30-minute thrill ride (cost: US$15). Other Tours Gray Line New York Tours (tel: (212) 397 2600) conducts 24 different sightseeing trips by different modes of transport. Their four-minute helicopter tour A Bird's Eye View costs US$50 and allows you to see the Empire State Building, the Chrysler and Central Park from above. Scene on TV Tours (tel: (212) 410 9830) operate bus tours of the sites of America's top TV show, including Friends, Seinfeld and Law & Order. |
