Walking Tours

The adult price of £7 includes a book of Witchery Tales. Mercat Walking Tours, Mercat House, Niddry Street South (tel/fax: (0131) 557 6464; e-mail: info@mercat-tours.com; website: www.mercattours.com), runs a 'Ghosts and Ghouls' tour daily at 1900 and 2000. The tour costs £6 for adults and includes haunted eighteenth-century underground vaults. The 'Mary King's Close' tour (advance bookings only) visits the street under the City Chambers that were sealed up following the plague of 1645.

The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour, 97b West Bow (tel: (0131) 226 6665; fax: (0131) 226 6668; website: www.scot-lit-tour.co.uk), operates a 'Literary Pub Tour', with actors guiding you through historic taverns where famous writers used to meet. The evening tour costs £7 for adults (concessions available).

Bus Tours

Helicopter Tours
Lothian Helicopters (tel: (01875) 320032) runs helicopter tours of the city, costing from £25 per person.
