Walking Tours

In the absence of any real guided walking tours around Riga, the best bet is to take a self-guided tour. A good place to start is at the Occupation Museum on Kalku iela. The majority of the sights in Old Riga are located on or near Skanu iela (the second right turn after the Occupation Museum), including St John's Church and St Peter's Church.

Bus Tours

Latvia Tours
(tel: 721 6306 or 708 5001) operate the Riga City Tour. Pick-up by double decker bus is at Raina bulvaris close to the Freedom Monument. This tour costs Ls6 and incorporates the thirteenth-century churches and the UNESCO-protected Art Nouveau masterpieces in the Old Town. A number of firms offer competing bus tours including Via Riga Travel Agency (tel: 706 1171) and Riga Travel Agency (tel: 721 6727).

River Tours

Liepaja
(tel: 760 1686) is a small cruise ship that takes tourists on trips on the Daugava river for Ls1-2. Departure is from Krastmala, near the Occupation Museum.

Horse-drawn Carriage Tours

Zirgu Seta
(tel: 923 0049) give visitors the opportunity to travel around Old Riga in a horse-drawn carriage. Tours, which cost Ls15 per hour, depart from near the Hotel de Rome.
