Amtrak (tel: (800) USA RAIL or 872 7245; web site: www.amtrak.com ) is the national railway service provider.
Brookwood Station
, 1699 Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta, only sees two arrivals and departures each day, on slow trains. These offer an often overlooked way to see the countryside and small towns of the USA.

Rail services:
The Amtrak Crescent service (tel: (877) 276 2767; web site: www.amtrakcrescent.com ) links Atlanta with New York and New Orleans (numbers 19 and 29). An evening departure runs to Washington and New York and a morning departure to New Orleans. From Atlanta to New York is 19 hours, to Washington 14 hours 45 minutes, to New Orleans 10 hours 35 minutes. Sleepers, restaurant service and various excursion options are available.

Transport to the city:
MARTA bus services to Five Points take ten minutes and cost US$1.50 (single journey).
