Website: www.polish-airports.com Poland's main airport, located ten kilometres (six miles) south of the city centre, serves 3.5 million passengers a year, and serves 60 regular routes worldwide. It is one of the most modern and well-equipped airports in Central and Eastern Europe and operates more than 60,000 flights a year. The domestic airport, located next to the international terminal, links with the largest cities in Poland (Gdansk, Cracow, Poznan, Szczecin, Wroclaw and Katowice). Major airlines: LOT Polish Airlines (tel: (022) 630 5007 or 5757 (business class)) is the national carrier, with services to over 30 countries and domestic flights to other Polish cities. International carriers include Aeroflot, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa and Swissair. Approximate flight times to Warsaw: From London is 2 hours 25 minutes; from New York is 8 hours 40 minutes; from Los Angeles is 14 hours 10 minutes; from Toronto is 8 hours 25 minutes; and from Sydney is 21 hours 45 minutes (plus transfer). Airport facilities: A transit hotel, tourist information centre, post office, bank/bureaux de change (kantors), duty-free shops, ATMs, bars and restaurants. Car hire firms include Avis, Budget, Europcar Interrent and Hertz. Business facilities: Conference facilities and audiovisual equipment are available for hire (tel: (022) 650 4151). Arrival/departure tax: None. Transport to the city: The Polski Express runs between the airport and central Warsaw every 20-25 minutes (Sundays and public holidays every 45 minutes); further information is available at the airport's tourist information point. Local bus 175 passes through the centre and near the Old Town 0450-2310 daily (journey time - 30 minutes), and bus 118 goes to the right-bank (the eastern part) of Warsaw (Praga, Grochow, Goclaw). Night bus 611 follows the same route, as far as the Central railway station, every half hour (2247-0247). Pickpockets have been known to operate on these routes. Taxis to the city centre cost approximately Z35-45 (journey time - 20 minutes). It is advised to book an official taxi and to confirm the price before setting off. Taxis may be hired in the arrivals' hall at the airport (cost - Z2 per km). |
