Tours of the City

Munich City Tourist Office (tel: (089) 2333 0257) can provide official guides for walking tours of the city, and coaches for group excursions. IPS München Sightseeing Events (tel: (089) 871 2399; fax: (089) 871 39744) organise various tours by bike, on foot and also excursions for half a day or a day by bus. Their trips explore a wide range from the Bavarian beer and food culture to music and arts, literary walks and romantic Munich by night (website: www.ipsmuenchen.de).

Walking Tours
Stattreisen, Frauenlobstrasse 24 (tel: (089) 5440 4230; fax: (089) 5440 4299), offers a number of walking tours for groups for DM12, which must be booked in advance. Special interest tours focus on particular themes, including the city's role in the rise and fall of Nazism, and the history of the city's brewing industry (website: www.stattreisen-muenchen.de).

Bus Tours
PanoramaTours, Arnulfstrasse 8 (tel: (089) 5502 8995; fax: (089) 5490 7570; e-mail: glmuc@aol.com), offers one-hour city sightseeing trips for DM17 in German and English departing from Bahnhofplatz. More extensive tours are also available. During the summer, Yellow Cab Sightseeing, Sendlinger Tor Platz 5 (tel: (089) 303 631; fax: (089) 303 876), runs a one-hour open-top bus tour of the city's main sights for DM17. The bus departs daily on the hour 1000-1700 from the Hauptbahnhof.

Bicycle Tours
Cityhopper Touren, Hohenzollernstrasse 95 (tel: (089) 272 1131; fax: (089) 273 1016), runs two cycle tours of the city. The first takes in the sights of the Old Town, while the second, longer tour explores the city's parks and gardens. Prices for both tours depend on the duration and the number of participants, but always include the price of bike hire.

Spurwechsel (tel: (089) 692 4699; fax: (089) 6937 0002) promise a relaxed and leisurely survey of Munich's main attractions on their three-hour city tour. Their specially advertised beer tour could also prove interesting. The DM29 charge includes bike hire (website: www.spurwechsel-muenchen.de).
