Many major roads lead to Melbourne and they have names and numbers, such as the Princes Highway (M1) and the Western Ring Road (M80). Traffic drives on the left and seatbelts are compulsory for drivers and passengers. Speed limits are 60kph (35mph) in urban areas and 100-110kph (62-28mph) on country roads and highways. The maximum legal alcohol to blood ratio for driving is 0.5?. Driving licences must be carried at all times. International Driving Permits are preferred to national licences. Routes to the city:
Melbourne has good road access to other main cities in Australia. The Western Highway goes to Adelaide and the Hume Highway to Sydney.

Greyhound Pioneer (tel: (03) 96 63 32 99; web site: www.greyhound.com.au) operates extensive services throughout Australia. The Melbourne terminal is at the Melbourne Transit Centre, 58 Franklin Street (tel: (03) 96 39 06 34), and is open 0600-2230 daily. The ticket office is at 205 Spencer Street (tel: (03) 96 00 16 87). There are numerous passes on offer.
