Accommodation

There are over 2000 rooms in the city, and during high season (June to August) these are filled pretty quickly. Sometimes this peak season extends to May and October, and so it is always advisable to book ahead in these months. In the low season, prices drop accordingly, although this is demand dependent. Plans for a star-rating system are afoot, to be implemented by the year 2000, but at the moment, Reykjavik has no five-star hotel, as such. There are no taxes on rooms. The hotel association SAF, Hafnarstraeti 20, 101 Reykjavik (tel: 354 511 8000; web site: www.mmedia.is/aning) can provide more information.
