Accommodation

Vienna offers some of the finest accommodation in Europe, in stately five-star hotels that recall Imperial times and in more modern hotels that cater to the business traveller. It can be quite difficult to find anything affordable in the city centre, but there are quite a few pensions in the surrounding districts (especially the seventh and eighth) that have the added benefit of introducing the visitor to some charming neighbourhoods that are not absolutely swarming with tourists. Hotels are graded with one to five stars; pensions are awarded one to four stars. A service charge of 10-15% is included in all hotel bills.

The summer (high) season lasts from April to October; the winter (low) season from November to March. Room reservations can be made through Wien-Hotels, the Vienna Tourist Board's reservation service (tel: (01) 21 11 44 44; fax: (01) 21 11 44 45; e-mail: rooms@info.wien.at ), or in person at a tourist information office.
