Web site: www.onda.org.ma/aeroport/marrakch/marrak.htm The Marrakech-Menara International Airport is located about five kilometres (four miles) southwest of Marrakech. The airport is mainly used for internal flights within Morocco and has far fewer passengers than Morocco's main intercontinental airport at Casablanca. Major airlines: Morocco's national airline is Royal Air Maroc (tel: (04) 436 205), which connects Marrakech to all the major Moroccan cities, including the intercontinental airport of Casablanca. GB Airways a subsidiary of British Airways, and Air France also operate direct flights to Marrakech. Approximate flight times to Marrakech: From London is 3 hours 30 minutes; from New York is 8 hours (via Casablanca); from Los Angeles is 15 hours (via Paris); from Toronto is 12 hours (via Montreal and Casablanca) and from Sydney is 19 hours (via Bangkok, Rome and Casablanca). Airport facilities: These include banks, post office, restaurant and snack bars, duty-free shops, general shops, medical centre and tourist information. Avis, Budget, Hertz and Europcar all provide car hire services. Business facilities: None. Arrival/departure tax: None. Transport to the city: The number 11 bus is supposed to run to the old Arabic heart of the city, the medina, every half an hour, but services can be unpredictable. Tickets cost Dh10. Taxis can be caught near the bus stop, with fares to the city around Dh70. |
