River: Vienna is accessible from a number of cities along the Danube River, including Passau (Germany), Bratislava (Slovak Republic) and Budapest (Hungary).

Boat services: DDSG Blue Danube Schiffahrt GmbH (tel: (01) 5888 0442; fax: (01) 5888 0440; e-mail: info@ddsg-blue-danube.at; website: www.ddsg-blue-danube.at) offers hydrofoil sailings from Bratislava Wednesday to Sunday from May to October (travel time - 1 hour 45 minutes; cost: öS240 one way, öS360 return). Daily sailings from Budapest are available from April to October (öS780 one way; öS1100 return) with additional sailings in July and August (travel time - 6 hours 20 minutes). A day return from Vienna is only possible by travelling to Budapest by river and returning to Vienna by rail (öS1190 return). A number of shorter cruise options are also available.

Transport to the city: The main terminal is Reichsbrücke which is located near the Vorgartenstrasse U-Bahn station. The terminal at Schwedenplatz is used for local tours.
