Beryl
Maile is an artist with attitude and
a woman with a mission. She believes that everyone can enjoy painting
a picture and sets out to prove it. Travelling round the region
to meet people at work, Beryl teaches two or three volunteers at
each place to paint and the results are extraordinarily good.
Working with a handful of acrylic paints and brushes, a palette
knife and sponges, even the most sceptical beginner soon discovers
a hidden talent. And while they paint, Beryl learns a bit about
the work they do and why they enjoy it. Join her for Art
@ Work at a chocolate factory, a hospital,
a museum and a law firm, to name but a few. And Beryl's tips and
advice might encourage you to have a go yourself.
Programme 4
Fingers crossed that today's
first guests don't have to leave in mid-painting, because
today Beryl is meeting members of Blue Watch at Avonmouth Fire
Station. If the alarm sounds, they'll have to go. After
a good look round, Beryl settles down to paint a bright red tender,
together with firefighters Tony and Graham. Later she teams up
with their colleague Steve for a doodle which reveals a horticultural
side to his nature.
Then it's off to the University of Bath, to the impressive
Sport Village where some of the UK's top athletes train.
Beryl rather fancies a swim in the Olympic-sized pool, but it's
time to paint. Sheila and Rose both work on the administrative
side of the university, and despite some hesitation from Rose,
enjoy having a go themselves. And Beryl gets to meet one of the
athletes who combines work and training at Sport Village – Steve,
whose chosen sport is judo.
