What is RecoEcho?

RecoEcho allows you to view your Graffiti stroke as you write. You also get the ability to use Graffiti on the full screen and see the ink as you write!

Is there a demo version of RecoEcho?

Yes.  A 5-day trial is available from www.cic.com.

Where can I purchase RecoEcho?

You can order and download RecoEcho from www.cic.com.

Does RecoEcho work with Jot?

If you are running Jot on your PalmPilot, there is no need to install RecoEcho.  Jot provides you all the features of RecoEcho.

What are the system requirements to install and run RecoEcho?
 
• Palm V, IIIx, III, PalmPilot Professional, and PalmPilot Personal
• 13KB free on your Palm organizer
• Palm System v.2.0 or higher
• Desktop computer (Mac or PC)

Installation and Getting Started

How do I install RecoEcho?

Installing from a PC

The following installation instructions are derived from the 3Com Handbook for the Palm V™ Organizer, "Chapter 3:  Installing and Removing Applications", page 42.  If you are using other versions of the PalmPilot, refer to your 3Com PalmPilot Handbook for step-by-step instructions.  If you are using other installation utilities, please refer to those utilities' instructions to install RecoEcho.
 

1. If the file you have is an EXE file, double-click on it to decompress the PRC file.
2. Locate the RecoEcho PRC file and double click on it.  The Palm Install Tool should open.  If the Palm Install Tool did not open, click on the Windows Start button.  Select Programs, Palm Desktop, and Palm Install Tool.
3. Select the user name that corresponds to your Palm organizer in the user drop down list.
4. If the Palm Install Tool opened when you double-clicked on the RecoEcho PRC file, you should have the RecoEcho PRC file listed under File Name.  If the PRC file is not listed, either
1. Drag-and-drop the RecoEcho PRC file into the Install Tool File Name list.  Or,
2. Click the ADD button to open the Open dialog.  Locate and select the RecoEcho PRC file.  Click the OPEN button to return to the Install Tool dialog.
5. Perform a local HotSync® operation to install WordComplete.

Installing from a Mac

The following installation instructions are for users running 3Com's MacPac v.2.  If you are using other versions of the MacPac, refer to your 3Com PalmPilot Handbook for step-by-step instructions.  If you are using other installation utilities, please refer to those utilities' instructions to install RecoEcho.  You can download a copy of MacPac v.2 from www.palm.com.

1. Locate the PRC file for RecoEcho on your Mac.
2. Double-click the HotSync® Manager icon in the Palm folder.
3. Choose Install from the HotSync menu.
4. Drag RecoEcho PRC file to the Install Palm Applications dialog box.
5. Perform a HotSync operation to transfer RecoEcho to your handheld.

How do I enable RecoEcho after installing?

1. Tap on the Applications icon
2. Select RecoEcho
3. Tap the checkbox for Enable RecoEcho

What options can I set for RecoEcho?

1. Write in full screen mode.

(Default =Yes)
2. Show ink when writing.

(Default =Yes)
3. Select ink width.

(Choice of 1 or 2; Default =2)

How do I uninstall RecoEcho?

First, disable RecoEcho by tapping on the RecoEcho icon.  Uncheck the box "Enable RecoEcho.

To remove RecoEcho from your Palm V or III:

• Tap on the Applications icon
• Tap the Menu icon
• Tap Delete
• Select RecoEcho
• Tap Delete

To remove RecoEcho from other models of the Palm devices, refer to your 3Com Palm Handbook on "Removing Applications."

Using RecoEcho

How do I start using RecoEcho?

• In an application that allows text entry, start writing in the input panel or on the screen.
• You will see the characters as you write.

What is the triangle in the center of the top edge of the Palm organizer screen used for?

This mode mark divides your Palm organizer screen into two writing areas.  Write letters to the left of the mode mark and numbers to the right.

Errors

When I tap on the RecoEcho icon or click the check box for Enable RecoEcho, I get the following error:  "Jot Installed:  Your Palm device has Jot recognizer installed already, there is no need to run RecoEcho."

This message will appear if Jot is installed on the Palm unit.  Since Jot already offers the features RecoEcho has to offer, there is no need to run both products.
