Net Book Database reader v2.0

This program is used to view the Net Book program database obtained from Pilot
organizer with HotSync process. It is written in Java as an applet and it
will work from a browser that supports Java (Netscape, IE).

1. Installation

Due to Java's security policy, files NetBook.html and all .class files must
be placed in a directory that preceeds your Pilot backup directory. For
example, lets say you have installed HotSync software in a directory
c:\Program Files\Pilot and your HotSync user name is henry. With these
settings your backup directory would be c:\Program Files\Pilot\henry\Backup.
I suggest placing this reader in a direcory of your user, that is c:\Program
Files\Pilot\henry. When you do this you should edit the NetBook.html file using
any text editor (Notepad).
There is a line like this
<PARAM NAME=path VALUE="/home/mzoran/programi/java/NetBook/Backup/">
you should change the VALUE part to "c:\Program Files\Pilot\henry\Backup\"
in a case of previously described settings. That means under quotes there
should be a full path to your backup directory plus a \ sign.

Alternatively you can use Find Files or Folders (in Windows) to locate a database
called NetBookDBMain.pdb. The directory where this file is located should be
entered as value in the NetBook.html file. NetBook.html file and all .class files
should be placed in a directory that preceeds the directoy where the file
NetBookDBMain.pdb was found.
Of course for this to work you should have installed Net Book on your Pilot, ran
it and performed HotSync at least once.

2. Usage

Before using the reader make sure that you have a Net Book installed and ran at
least once (to create databases).
HotSync (this will copy the databases from your Pilot to desktop computer),
open browser, open file NetBook.html. You should be prompted to
enter password you have set on your Pilot as the Net Book password. Once
correctly entered the reader should display your data. You can set a
bookmark in your browser now to speed up the loading process in the future.

3. Changes

The version 2.0 of Net Book uses a different database format than the version 1.2.
If you were using Net Book prior to version 2.0 you should upgrade your Net Book
Java Reader to this version.

4. Troubles

If the reader has problems finding necessary file it will inform you with an error
warning. In 100% cases problems are caused by misconfiguration in NetBook.html file.
In such case see your browsers java console log to see what is reader trying to open.
Java console can be found in Netscape Communicator in menu
Communicator/Tools/Java Console
and in Internet Explorer under View/Java Console menu
however for that menu item to be present you must enable Java console in menu
Tools/Internet Options, Advanced tab, Java VM group, Java console enabled (must be
checked).
