Table of Contents : Using Handwise Valuta : Setting Currencies

Setting Currencies

Tapping the Menu button on Palm's silk-screened display shows the application menu bar. File-menu provides tools to copy values from/to clipboard. Select "Set Currencies" command to view listing of currency rates stored in Palm database.

From this list you can select the currencies displayed on currency menus of the main screen. Currencies are selected by checking the box next to currency on list.

The list displays the ISO currency code, name of currency and the date the currency rate was last updated. The list is sorted by currency code, NOT by currency name. Writing the first letters of the currency name is a shortcut to the currency.

A warning icon is displayed on those currencies that were not updated during last update. The reason for this is that either there was an error in transfer from server, or the currency is user defined custom currency.

Current Base currency is marked with Lock-icon. Base currency is the currency that all other currency rates are based on. This means that it's rate is 1.00. Default value for Base Currency is Euro. It can be changed from Preferences dialog, but only if your update service supports other base currencies.

You can insert new or custom currencies into the list by tapping New-button.

You can also enter rates for stocks and convert them with Handwise Valuta. Create new "currency" for your stock (sorry, only three characters in currency codes) and enter value against your base currency. Then you can use Handwise Valuta to figure out your portfolio.

By entering your own currency and rating it 1,22 (for 22% tax) against your base currency, you can easily calculate prices with tax included.

Tapping a currency in list opens Currency details dialog, where you can edit the currency name and change the currency rate manually. When first opening a dialog, a warning is displayed if the currency for some reason was not updated in the last update.

You can also beam currencies to Palm device equipped with Handwise Valuta by tapping the "Beam"-button.
