MIPS ABI Applications Directory

A Guide to MIPS ABI-Compliant Software Products
November, 1995

Welcome to the introductory issue of the MIPS ABI Applications Directory. This directory provides information on applications software which are MIPS ABI-compliant. The MIPS ABI Group, Inc. provides a standard for porting applications software to a common UNIX environment for MIPS RISC based systems.

The MIPS ABI Group, Inc. is a consortia of nine MIPS RISC-based UNIX system vendors, including: NEC, Silicon Graphics, Pyramid Technology, Sony, Siemens-Nixdorf, Tandem Computer, Concurrent Computer, Control Data, and Dansk Data Elektronik. The MIPS ABI Group defines a binary-compatibility standard adopted by these companies that allows application software to run, without modification, across computer systems from each of the ABI members.

Software developers utilize the MIPS ABI to generate ABI binary-compliant applications, and also to generate applications that utilize the MIPS ABI in addition to specific platform libraries that can be linked on site. Please contact the software developers for information as to specific platforms supported.

The directory includes seven application categories or sections. To use the directory, look in the appropriate section for the available software. Each listing includes a brief description of the application as well as its availability and contact information. Additional information is available directly from the vendor.

Future editions of this directory will be published approximately twice per year. If you have comments, questions or would like additional copies, please contact the MIPS ABI Marketing Group, by sending e-mail to marketing@mipsabi.org.
