VERSION 2.4
Help Index
OverviewEmail Address Juggler 2.4 is a powerful program which allows you to sort, filter and manage email address lists in an intuitive and controlled fashion. Email lists can be automatically built from just about any kind of file including word processor documents, web pages, email client folders, databases, spreadsheets and existing email lists. The software also allows you to instantly send messages to either all the addresses, or just selected addresses on a list. Juggler 2.4 builds on the features of earlier versions, providing improved performance through enhanced internal logic, as well as additional tools and an improved message editor.
Juggler is a medium-volume email list manager designed for use by responsible persons. It is not a high-volume indiscriminate spam generator and its use in connection with such unethical purposes is strictly prohibited. You have been warned.
The main window has two list boxes which can be used for splitting and combining groups of addresses using an array of automatic and manual tools. The toolbar has a selection of buttons which generally provide instant access to some of the most popular commands found in the pull-down menus. If you're not sure what a button does, hold your mouse pointer over it for a couple of seconds and it will tell you. The red toilet (or WC, john etc.) button has a dual purpose. Clicking it will let you empty all the addresses from both lists. You can also use it as a trash can (bin, circular filing cabinet etc.) by dragging addresses from the lists into it. On the right-hand side of the toolbar are two digital displays. One red and one green, these keep you informed of the total number of addresses in either list at any time.
The File Menu
The File menu provides three options for loading files containing email addresses: Load Local File allows you to select files from your local disk or network drives. Load from Editor Window allows you to load the text from the Email List Editor window. Load from Web lets you load files directly from an internet or intranet connection. After you have loaded a file, the status bar at the bottom of the main Juggler window will indicate that the file is loaded. The file is then scanned and email addresses are added to the green (left hand) list. Files load-up quite quickly, however, scanning involves a good deal of validation actions and when scanning large files it may take a little while. The scanning speed is largely dependent on the processing power of your computer. If the software finds ambiguous items which look like email addresses but possibly are not, these items will be sometimes be added to red (right-hand) list. You should always check both lists visually to identify items which really don't look like email addresses. An example might be... F6J9S4PL15-PYa7-293@not.quite.right.org. While this could be a valid email address, there is a very good chance that it isn't. (This sort of text can appear in email headers and is usually not an email address but a reference code generated by a mail server). You should also check for, and manually remove different addresses for the same person to avoid sending them more than one copy of your message. (identical addresses can be removed automatically). When Juggler encounters email addresses which include commas (e.g. 1234,56789@compuserva.com), the commas are automatically converted to dots.
A common error made when sending multiple email is believing that a '.com' or '.net' internet address will belong to someone in your country. These domains are used the world over not just in one particular country. You probably already know this, but take care what you send and to whom. It can be very annoying to receive email which is of no relevance to you... (e.g. those containing toll-free or freephone numbers, or special offers which do not apply in your country or state,) ... or email in a foreign language which you don't understand. As a general rule: If you don't know who you are sending your message to, you shouldn't be sending it.
The Send Messages menu-item launches the Email Message Window which is used for actually creating and sending email. The List Summary menu item provides an instant summary of the number of selected addresses in the left-hand and right-hand lists.
The Edit Menu
contains a range of tools for selecting, moving, copying and deleting groups of addresses, each in a number of ways.
Selecting and deselecting can be done manually, checking or unchecking the boxes next to each address. You can do this either simply by pointing and clicking or from the keyboard using the cursor keys to move up and down the list, and pressing the space bar to make selections.
It is also possible to Select All or Deselect All the addresses in either list or both lists simultaneously. The Select by Criterion feature allows you to select all the addresses in either or both lists which conform to given criteria. For example, by entering ".CO.CA", all the addresses containing ".co.ca" will be selected. (i.e. Commercial addresses in Canada). The Select by Criterion feature is additive, this means that new selections are added to any addresses already selected.
Invert Selection allows you to swap around the selected and not-selected addresses and vice versa.
Selected addresses can be copied, deleted or moved. The Copy Selected option puts the selected addresses onto the Windows Clipboard so they can be pasted directly to the Editor Window or into other documents or email programs. Move Selected transfers selected addresses from the left list to the right list or vice versa. Delete Selected clears only the selected addresses from the chosen list(s).
The Delete Duplicates function scans the lists for duplicate addresses and removes them. Note that this feature works on both the left and right lists simultaneously but it treats them both individually, so addresses can still appear in both lists afterwards (but only once in each list). To ensure that neither list has addresses which are found in the other, use the Subtract List functions. If the Automate-Remove Duplicates option is checked, duplicate addresses are deleted automatically when scanning a file
The Subtract List tools compare the contents of both the left and right lists. When an address in one list is found in the other, it is removed from one of the lists. You can choose which list the duplicated addresses will be deleted from.
A typical procedure for removing multiple addresses from a mailing list is as follows...
1. Gather addresses you want to remove into a single file. You might do this by collecting any 'remove requests' and 'undeliverable returns' into a single mail folder in your usual email client program.
2. Load and scan the file in Juggler.
3. Use the Editor window and the Load from Editor Window command to add any additional addresses you want on the remove list. You can also load additional files or existing lists.
4. Move all the addresses to be removed into the right-hand (red) list. (If you want to save the coplete list, clear the edit window, copy the list into it and Save.)
5. Now load the actual mailing list into the green list. Then select the Subtract List - Right from Left menu command (or the left-hand subtract button on the toolbar).
Remember, you can load addresses from multiple files into Juggler and combine them in one list. Alternatively, you might want to create a remove list manually by selecting addresses to remove, then moving them over from one list to the other. By creating and saving remove lists you can always clean-up your mailing lists at any time and so avoid annoying people who no longer want to subscribe to your list. Subtraction processing has been greatly enhanced in Juggler 2.4. It is much faster than in versions 1.x.
You can quickly move addresses one at a time from one list to the other or from the main Juggler window to the editor window simply by dragging and dropping them. You can also move selected (checked) addresses into the other list with the left/right arrow buttons or by using the Move Selected command from the edit menu. Remember, the Select by Criterion, feature can help you to select large numbers of addresses.
Use the Automate menu to decide which actions will be performed automatically by Juggler. Items in this menu are simply switched on or off, as indicated by check marks in the menu itself. When Scan on Load is checked, files will be automatically scanned for email addresses as soon as they are loaded. If Scan on Load is not checked, you will need to scan the file manually by clicking the Scan Button (binoculars icon). When Remove Duplicates is checked, the Delete Duplicates function is run automatically as soon as a new file has been scanned. The Copy on Click feature allows instant transfer of listed addresses to the Windows Clipboard, one at a time, simply by clicking the addresses. When using the Copy on Click feature, clicking on an address checkbox rather than the address itself can help to record which addresses have been copied and which have not. This feature is useful for copying addresses one at a time into another program or into a specific position in the list editor window.
The Help Menu
Get Help launches your default HTML browser to read this file. The Web Site item will attempt to take you directly to the Email Address Juggler Web Site. About Juggler will show you the splash window with version and registration information. To upgrade the software from the trial version to the full version when you have received your registration details, select Upgrade, then enter your registration number and user name.
The list editor is launched whenever you click one of the buttons with a blue notebook icon. If there are addresses in the left-hand list which have been selected (checked), the left-hand button will add those addresses to editor window (addresses get added beneath any existing text). The right-hand button works in a similar way with the right-hand list. |

The default file-name extension for email lists in Juggler is .Lst, but in actual fact, the editor works with standard text files and as Email Address Juggler doesn't generally care what else is in the files it works with, you can put any text you want into your email list. For example: You could include the full name and address of each person on the list. When the list is loaded into Juggler, anything which isn't an email address is simply ignored.A comprehensive set of text editing features are provided in the editor window. These include: Cut, Copy, Paste, Select All, Delete, Find, Find Next, Convert to Lower Case and print. Most users will already be familiar with these functions and they will not be discussed in detail here. Note that the Cut, Copy, Paste, Lower Case, and Delete functions work in conjunction with text which has been highlighted first.
The editor window has a tendency to 'float' above other windows on your screen. If you need to get it out of the way, you can minimise or close it. Or you stop it floating by selecting About Juggler from the main Help Menu.
The List Editor Window and the Email Message Window both provide pop-up menus when you click with the right-hand mouse button. These menus provide quick access to commands such as Undo, Copy and Paste.
Warning: Sending unsolicited promotional messages (spam) is impolite and annoying to recipients, it may also be illegal.... Don't do it. Sending email with obscene, racist or other offensive content is inexcusable and is illegal.... Don't do that either. Any rights you may have to use this product will terminate immediately if use it for such purposes.
Choosing Send Messages from the File Menu in the main Juggler window, launches the Send Message Window. This enables you to create, edit, save and send messages. You can create messages from scratch or, if you wish, you can open text files into the message window or paste text copied from another program. Messages are sent to the addresses in the left-hand list (the green list) which have been selected as recipients by checking the relevant boxes.
Email Settings
Before you can send email messages, you must first enter details of your mail server. To do this, select Mail Setup from the Options menu. This displays the Email Settings Window ...
Your service provider will be able to help with the correct settings if you are not sure. It is probably best to fill-in all the boxes but as this program does not actually receive email, it may not be necessary to fill-in the POP Host section. This will depend on your service provider. It is very important that you fill-in the Sender Name (your name) and the Reply To (your email address) fields accurately. There are various national and international laws which require you to do this; and your recipients could have a hard time replying to you if you are not accurate with this information. Once you have entered these details, you will not need to do it again unless you change your service provider. | ![]() |
If you enter a password it will be saved in an encrypted format for security, however, if you prefer, you can leave the password field blank. If you do this, you will have an opportunity to enter your password just when you are actually about to send mail. The Signature field allows you to enter a customised footer for all your messages. You can either enter a signature text of up to 200 characters or leave the field blank if you prefer. If you do enter a signature, it will appear at the bottom of the emails you send with Juggler. You can compose messages in the Email Message Window or you can copy and paste the text from a word processor or other text editor. The File - Open command allows you to open existing text files directly into Juggler. You can also Save and Open Juggler '.Jmsg' files. These are basically plain text files which automatically use the the subject line for disk file name. Just click the File-Save command and your message will be instantly saved in your Juggler folder. (Note: If you have another .Jmsg file with an identical subject line, in the same folder, it will be overwritten when saving.)Before sending email you should consider the fact that some email readers do not automatically wrap long lines of text. This is not a problem for some people but to others, your message could appear as one long line and be very difficult to read. To avoid this problem, it is a good idea, after composing your message, to use the Wrap Lines function found in the message window's Edit Menu. Alternatively, you could press the 'Enter' key at the end of each line of approximately 50 characters. Both of these methods insert 'hard' carriage returns at the end of each line, this way, all your recipients should get a nice tidy looking message regardless of the type of email software they have. If you stretch out the message window so it becomes wider, you will be able to see more clearly which lines have carriage returns at the end, and which don't. As a general rule, lines should not cross the vertical line seen in the message area of the message window. (The line is just a guide and it cannot be moved.)
Note that because Juggler has a number of windows, font sizes have deliberately been kept quite small to save desktop space. Depending on how your recipients have their email client software set-up, message text will often appear to them larger than it appears in Juggler.
Note that Juggler 2.4 does not send HTML formatted email. Many email readers do not support HTML and those that do work in different ways. Using HTML in multiple emails is definitely not recommended. Do not try to format an email by entering HTML tags. If you do this, what you see, is what most of your recipients will see - i.e. an HTML script and not a formatted page. If you do need to send HTML formatted mail to recipients on your list, you can easily Copy the address list from the list editor window, ready to be pasted into the recipient section of another email program. It is strongly recommended that before sending a message to multiple recipients, you should spell-check it, print it out and perhaps email a copy to yourself. This is a good way of spotting any typos or other mistakes in your message. Don't forget that messages are sent to all the SELECTED addresses in the green (left-hand) list. When Address as CCs is selected, a copy of the message is also sent to your own Reply To address.
Spell Checking
Juggler 2.4 includes a sophisticated international Spell Checker for checking your email messages before you send them. Juggler is normally supplied with an International English dictionary. However, a series of additional or alternative dictionaries is readily available. These include American English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano and Nederlands. These dictionaries can be downloaded from the internet by selecting Help-Special-Download Dictionaries from the message window.
When you have additional dictionaries, you have the option of selecting a different dictionary for each message session, or if you prefer, you can choose just one dictionary which will be used every time.
The spell checker also allows you to instantly add names or words and even create additional dictionaries which are checked simultaneously when running the spell checker. Simply follow the on-screen prompts.
To send messages select Send Now from the File menu in the Send Message Window.
The Options Menu also provides a View Log item. This opens the Mail Session Log window which lists the addresses to which emails have been sent. You can copy the entire text of the Mail Session Log to the Windows clipboard by double-clicking on the text itself. If you wish, you can then paste the text into the Email List Editor window or another application and save it for future reference.
The Options menu provides you with three different ways to send email to the recipients on your list: The default is to send a blind carbon-copy to each recipient. The default is reset every time you close and reopen the Send Message Window Sending as blind carbon copies keeps the time involved in sending messages to a minimum while not sending a copy of the whole mailing list to all the recipients. If you want all the recipients to see your whole mailing list in their emails then turn off the Blind option and leave Address as CCs checked. If neither of these options are checked then your message will be sent to each recipient as an individually addressed email though this is normally a much more time-consuming process than the Address as CCs methods.
Please be thoughtful when sending mail. Most email users already get a mountain of mail which is useless to them, don't make matters worse by sending your message to people who don't want it. ALWAYS ensure your 'reply-to' address is correct so that people can let you know if you have sent something to the wrong address.
Email Address Juggler is not very expensive and you can easily register online via the official web site www.mirage1.u-net.com/juggler.htm. When you have registered, you will get a registration number which allows you to upgrade the software which will then behave slightly differently. The table below illustrates the differences...
