Shareware

This program is Shareware.

If you like it, send us US $20 and we shall send you the latest version including the C source code.
The source code will show you how to traverse a directory tree, something which is a little tricky.

General

This little utility will recurse through all the branches of a directory tree and change the attributes of all files the way you want them to be.

This is especially handy after copying a bunch of data from a CD-ROM to a hard disk.  On a CD-ROM, all files are marked as Read-Only.  Consequently, after copying them to a hard disk, changing everything to Read-Write can be a rather tedious affair if you have to do it by hand.

Installation

Nothing much to do...
Simply copy the file WinAttribute.exe and the key file WinAttribute.key to a utilities directory on your hard disk and run it.

Registration

When you register, you will get a key file that will cause the messages to be more pleasing.

You can register at http://www.AerospaceSoftware.com, using your VISA card.  We shall e-mail you the latest copy of WinAttribute.exe, a key file and the source code in C, so you can learn how to create a program that can traverse a Windows directory.

Operation

You have to supply WinAttributes with the starting point of the directory tree that you want to modify.  This can be done in a number of ways: Set the Checkboxes the way you want them to be, the default is all off, which is the normal condition for Windows files.

Set a date and time.  If you leave these empty, then the file dates and times will not be changed.

Click Go! to do it or Cancel to quit the utility.

The time settings are Greenwich Mean Time.  This is the real value saved in the directory.  This is NOT the time that your PC will display however, since the PC will adjust the time display to your local time zone!

The Lo Case checkbox will change the filenames to all lower case.  This is useful if you have to transfer files via FTP to a UNIX machine, which is case sensitive to filenames.

WinAttributes will tromp through all branches that it can find from the tree starting point onwards.  If you select a drive letter only, then it will tromp through the whole disk.  This way you can set every file on the disk to read/write :-) or to read-only, system and hidden :-( ... So, use it with care!

Have fun!
