  3. Many people and friends have asked for assistance setting up a 
  4. BBS within the Windows Environment. These files are meant to be
  5. a reference point to start composing your own system setup.  These 
  6. are my BBS configuration files running the following Hardware and 
  7. Software Configurations;
  8.     
  9. Hardware:
  10.     386 Flexcache
  11.     25 Mhz
  12.     4 Meg RAM
  13.     Wren III 150 Meg hard drive
  14.     Microsciense 160 Meg hard drive
  15.     1.2 floppy
  16.     1.44 floppy
  17.     80 meg Archive Tape drive (QIC)
  18.     VGA - ViewPerfect
  19.     9600 Baud modem - USR Dual Standard (with ports 
  20.               locked at 19200 baud)

  23.     DOS 3.3
  24.     4DOS 3.02
  25.     Hyperdisk 3.10
  26.     QEMM 5.11
  27.     BNU 1.30 (Fossil Driver for Comm Port)

  35. Enclosed in this ZIP file you will find the following files...
  36.     AUTOEXEC.BAT...this is my current BAT file for system
  37.     CONFIG.SYS.....this is the current Config.sys file
  38.     LOADER.BTM.....this is a menu file works with 4DOS to allow me
  39.                choose the setup on bootup.  It prompts me to choose
  40.                between Windows, DESQview, or 4DOS prompt.  If no 
  41.                input after 5 seconds it will default to load
  42.                Windows 3.0
  43.     RDB.BAT........The BAT file that invokes the mailer/BBS.  This
  44.                runs all the BBS and D'Bridge.
  45.     RDB.BTM........Same as RDB.BAT only for use with 4DOS.  The .BTM
  46.                file signifies "Batch to Memory" it loads the BAT
  47.                in memory and enables it to run almost as fast as
  48.                a compiled program. (TRY IT!)
  49.     WADE_SYS.INI...Lines to include in your SYSTEM.INI file for 
  50.                running a BBS, comm program in background.  Also
  51.                needed if running a high speed modem in Windows.
  52.          WADE_WIN.INI...Same as above.  This commands need to be added to
  53.                your WIN.INI file. (description of commands in file)
  54.     RDB.PIF........PIF file to start BBS in Windows.
  55.     TELIX.PIF......PIF file to run Telix in Windows.
  56.     ZIPIT.PIF......PIF file to unzip ZIP files by double clicking 
  57.                on them.
  58.     ZIPIT.BAT......Bat file to unzip ZIP files (need to edit 
  59.                to add your own directory names and path)

  62. These files are meant to be a guideline only.  The author does not 
  63. imply or express any warranty with these configuration files. The author
  64. will not accept liability for anything that happens when trying these 
  65. configurations. I have been running a BBS in Windows for about 4 
  66. months now and LOVE IT!

  68. The best advise I could give to anyone trying to set up Communication
  69. programs in Windows would be:
  70.     * Use BNU as your FOSSIL driver (X00 will not work)
  71.     * Set your default priority rating for foreground apps at 100
  72.         * Set your default priority rating for background apps at 50
  73.     * Set all your Communications at 100 background and 100 foreground.
  74.     * Set the Memory limits in the PIF to -1 (this allows Windows 
  75.       to use all it needs).
  76.     * Depending on Hardware set time slice to 10 (Default of 20
  77.       appears to choppy on my 386/25 CPU).

  79. These files are working well at this time.  However I'm sure that tomorrow
  80. will bring something newer and better.  Your ideas on how these 
  81. configurations could be improved would be welcomed.
