  1. Sybase VAX server

  3. Q: How do I connect a NeXT front end to a VAX Sybase SQL server?
  4.  
  5. A: In order to run a Sybase front end on a Unix platform against a
  6. Sybase SQL Server on a DEC VAX machine, you need to have Wollongong
  7. networking capability.  Sybase currently provides a "Wollongong
  8. Server" on DEC VAX.  However, with the release of the VMS 4.1 SQL
  9. Server, the special server will be discontinued, and its function
  10. of connectivity with Unix front ends via Wollongong will be included
  11. in the standard release.

  13. This new server will offer "mix and match" connectivity to front
  14. dnds via both DECnet and TCP/IP, and can connect to front ends on
  15. different networks at the same time. TCP/IP products supported are:
  16. Wollongong's WIN/TCP, Excelan's Multinet, Excelan's LAN Server, and
  17. Novell Netware.  Contact Sybase for information concerning the availability
  18. of the 4.1 version of SQL Server.
