I've heard that on the new '040 products the SCSI connector is a SCSI-2  (50 pin) while on the '030 Cube  it was a modified RS-232 (DB25).  What is it on the upgrade  board?  Will I need a adaptor cable for  external  SCSI peripherals?\

The SCSI connector on all '040 products is a 50 pin SCSI-2 type connector .  This new connector is identical to those used on SparcStations.  You can now order a cable from NeXT that has a SCSI-2 connector on one end and SCSI-1 (in a Centronics style connector) on the other end. The part number is N7007.

NeXT does not offer a cable that has DB25 on one end and SCSI-2 on the other.  One possible solution for this is to get a cable with female Centronics on both ends,  and then attach a N7007 cable to one end, and a DB25 to male Centronics cable to the other end.
