  1. PM Patrol History Log
  2. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

  4. Version 2.12
  5. ------------
  6. This version causes the PM Patrol profile to be initialized due
  7. to the addition of new profile data. Sorry for any inconvenience - again.
  8.  
  9. Added a print Spool Monitor to report the number of queued print jobs across
  10. each or all print queues installed. This can monitor local or remote server
  11. print queues. The Spool Monitor can be accessed in the PM Patrol "Options"
  12. dialog under "Display Items". The refresh frequency can be modified as usual
  13. under the "General Configuration". The default monitors the local computer and
  14. displays total queued print jobs per queue.
  15.  
  16. Added a group of Print Spooler Management functions allowing you to Purge 1
  17. or all print queues, Release 1 or all queues, or Hold 1 or all queues. Unlike
  18. the "Spool Monitor", these functions are only applicable to the local
  19. computer. This can be accessed from the "Utility" popup menu or "Options"
  20. dialog utility menu.

  22. Added another Command Line utility, "QMGMT.EXE" which operates identically to the Print Spooler Management function - another freebie.
  23.  
  24. Added a nice little feature that checks if you have a diskette in drive A
  25. at the time of a shutdown and reminds you to remove the diskette b/4 reboot.
  26.  
  27. Added the ability to filter-out floppy drives from PM Patrol displays. This
  28. option can be accessed from the "General Configuration" dialog and is called
  29. "Display Floppies". The default filters-out floppy drives.
  30.  
  31. Added a popup menu for the PStat Window that allows quick access to "Action"
  32. menu items.

  34. The default colors for the main status line have been aligned to popular
  35. preferences.
  36.  
  37. Moved the "Auto Save" profile option from the "Options" dialog to the
  38. "Other Items" group in the "General Configuration".

  40. Fixed a bug in the "Drives Online" monitor that caused eroneous data to appear
  41. on the status line.

  43. Added a few sections to the online help. Including "Introduction",
  44. "Problem Determination", and additional information regarding support for
  45. non-CompuServe members in the online help.

  49. This version causes the PM Patrol profile to be initialized due
  50. to the addition of new profile data. Sorry for any inconvenience.

  52. Due to popular demand, the PStat Window is now re-sizable. After positioning
  53. and sizing the window, select "Save Settings" to save as the default. Also
  54. added ability to "hide" the paths of modules to obtain a small window size.
  55.  
  56. Also due to popular demand, the "Drives" monitor retains the drive letter even
  57. if the drive goes "offline". This allows network drives to be monitored when
  58. frequent logon/logoff is performed. The 2 drive limit was increased to 3.
  59.  
  60. The default "Fixed-size" fonts for the PStat Window, Drives Info, and other
  61. listbox windows are now the same as the default font for the main status window.
  62.  
  63. Added an "Auto Save" feature to automatically save the PM Patrol profile
  64. settings when the PM Patrol program ends. Thus, there is no need to perform a
  65. "Save Settings" when this is enabled. The default is enabled.
  66.  
  67. Removed the "PPID" and "SID" display items from the PStat Load window. These
  68. items were already being displayed in the PStat Summary window.
  69.  
  70. The active PID in the PStat Load window is now displayed with an "*" under
  71. the column "Load" to left of the CPU load percentage.
  72.  
  73. Added the ability to set the OS/2 system date and time. This can be accessed
  74. in the "Options" dialog under the "System" menu and is called "Set Date/Time".
  75.  
  76. The Fast Find facility now accepts a DoubleClick on an item in the list box.
  77. This will invoke the "Viewer" program for the file selected.
  78.  
  79. PM Patrol now safeguards against having more than 1 instance of the program
  80. running.  A "1" is returned to the OS if it's already executing.
  81.  
  82. Fixed the Min/Max window behavior on the PM Patrol "Options" dialog. This was
  83. minimizing PM Patrol "Options" dialog when the dialog should have been
  84. dismissed.

  86. The Min/Max function has been enhanced to ignore minimizing/maximizing two of
  87. the more popular desktop expanders. (c)9Lives and (c)MegaDesk. These windows
  88. will remain on the desktop now and unaffected by the Min/Max function.

  91. Version 2.10
  92. ------------
  93. This version causes the PM Patrol profile to be initialized due
  94. to the addition of new profile data. Sorry for any major inconvenience.
  95.  
  96. The PStat Window for "Load" analysis now reflects actual CPU load of each
  97. Process (PID). This is the relative CPU load for each process (PID) as
  98. compared to other processes currently running. Prior versions of PM Patrol
  99. displayed this "load" as an ongoing percentage since the program was started.
  100. This is a major enhancement for global monitoring of any/all programs.
  101.  
  102. The PStat Window for "Module" status has now been broken down into 3
  103. categories; 1) DLLs, 2) Device drivers, 3) File systems. Also changed
  104. the "Module" Status to disable "auto-refresh" if active when this option
  105. is selected.
  106.  
  107. Added the "Fast Find" files facility. This provides numerous search types.
  108. This feature can be accessed via the PM Patrol "Utility" pop-up menu.
  109. Refer to the online help for details of this facility.
  110.  
  111. PM Patrol now ships a few OS/2 command line utilities. These include "Find
  112. File" (FF.EXE), "Find Duplicates" (FDUPS.EXE), "PID Kill" (PIDKILL.EXE), and
  113. "Shared Copy" (SCOPY.EXE). These 32-bit utils. Refer to the online help
  114. within PM Patrol for details of these Command Line Utilities. These tools
  115. are independant of PM Patrol and are not required for PM Patrol operation.
  116.  
  117. Added a "General Configuration" option, "Idle Time Finds", to allow the
  118. "Fast Find" files operation to execute only when there is inactivity within
  119. the OS/2 system.
  120.  
  121. Added the ability to monitor OS/2 queues. These are "named" queues that are
  122. monitored for the number of outstanding messages in the queue. The name of the
  123. queue can be entered in the PM Patrol "General Configuration" dialog. Up to
  124. two queues can be monitored. Refer to online help for "queues" detail.
  125.  
  126. Added the Icon Editor as an option in the "System" mouse pointer menu. This
  127. provides the ability to modify, set, and change the mouse pointer. 
  128.  
  129. Fixed a problem where PM Patrol pop-up dialogs could appear off the screen.
  130. All PM Patrol windows now attempt to position the lower-left corner at the
  131. position of the mouse pointer. In cases where the window could position off
  132. the screen, the window is placed at the edge of the desktop screen.

  134. Fixed a problem where attempting to exit PM Patrol would not terminate the
  135. program when the PStat Window was active. It required two consecutive
  136. "exit" requests.
  137.  
  138. The Auto-Refresh is now turned off when viewing the PStat Window for
  139. active Modules. All other PStat Window view options remain with auto-refresh.
  140. Auto-refresh for this option made no sense to support and was detremental to
  141. overall performance when enabled with auto-refresh.

  146. Increased the Logger maximum frequency from 5 to 60 seconds (1 minute) 
  147. for LAN Administation purposes. Refer to online help for more details,
  148. Logger overhead, and how the logger is also designed for real-time monitoring.

  150. Fixed a problem where the Swap and Process Summary refresh spin-button rates
  151. were flip-flopped in the "General Configuration" dialog. Sorry.

  157. This version causes the PM Patrol profile to be initialized due to the addition
  158. of new profile data. Sorry.

  160. Due to very popular demand, PM Patrol now adds the ability to monitor 2 disk
  161. drives for free space.
  162.  
  163. Added an "extended Logging" facility providing ability to log all selected
  164. monitor items that display on the PM Patrol main status line. The ability
  165. to do continuous logging to network drives is supported as well as logging
  166. at startup.
  167.  
  168. Added several customization items for Logging, including status line color
  169. while logger is active, notifications, primary and backups options.
  170.  
  171. Added ability to view and/or delete Logger log files. Viewer program is user
  172. selectable.
  173.  
  174. Added the ability to monitor total system "up-time". This compliments the
  175. PM Patrol "Elapsed" time which is user resettable.

  177. The PStat percentage for thread level application time is now calculated to
  178. weigh only against the effort of other threads in the same process (PID).

  180. All monitor items have been broken out (ungrouped) to further support the
  181. ability to customize the PM Patrol main status line appearance.

  183. The PM Patrol defaults have been realigned toward popular demands.

  193. This version causes the PM Patrol profile to be initialized due to the addition
  194. of new profile data.
  195.  
  196. Added ability to select any MOUSE pointer and system WAIT pointer. This option
  197. can be found under "System" options of the "Options" dialog. Refer to the
  198. online help for details.
  199.  
  200. Added the "Fast Format" facility. This allows you to quickly erase a diskette
  201. (drive A or B) that was already formatted. This can be accessed from the
  202. "Drives" option via the "Utility" menu. Very useful.
  203.  
  204. Due to popular demand, PM Patrol now remembers the drive you want to monitor
  205. by default when a "Save Settings" is performed.
  206.  
  207. When the RAM graph is enabled the text "Ram" will not appear anymore. 
  208.  
  209. Over the past several version of PM Patrol, the online help has become rather
  210. inconsistant. The online help has been updated and is now consistent with the
  211. PM Patrol program. Nobody ever likes doing docs.

  213. Fixed a problem with the Process Status window for killing threads. The "Kill"
  214. menu option was being disabled every time a refresh occured.

  216. Fixed a problem where the swapper file lives in the root directory.

  219. Version 2.04
  220. ------------
  221. Fixed Shutdown problem when using the OS/2 Shutdown from the "Desktop" popup
  222. menu. PM Patrol was not allowing a shutdown to complete on some machines.
  223. This was a timing issue - sorry.
  224.  
  225. Time format now displays current time using OS/2 Country settings as configured
  226. in the OS/2 System "Country" folder.
  227.  
  228. Format for elapsed time now displays number of days/hours/mins instead of just
  229. hours/mins. Some machines remain powered on for more thannn 1 day. The hours
  230. were therefore being displayed as large (near meaningless) numbers.
  231.  
  232. Added an option in the "General Configuration" to allow Process Info to
  233. automatically enter "Auto Refresh" mode when the Process Info is selected.
  234. This is also now the default.
  235.  
  236. Added an option for graphing free RAM.
  237.  
  238. The position of the Process Status dialog window is now rememered and can
  239. therefore be permanently saved in that position by selecting "Save Settings"
  240. in the "Options" dialog.

  242. Moved "Reset Elapsed", "Lockup", and "Sleep" PM Patrol options to the
  243. "Utility" menu on the "Options" dialog. Recall that this "Utility" menu
  244. can also be access from the PM Patrol status line with the right single
  245. click of the mouse. This movement was done to provide quick access to more
  246. "Utility" functions without having to go thru the "Options" dialog.

  248. Changed the installation script to prompt b/4 creating WorkPlace Shell objects.
  249. This allows the ability to install just the PM Patrol program files and not
  250. recreate the WPS desktop objects.

  252. Reorganized the "Settings" menu structure on the "Options" dialog for future
  253. enhancements. Part of this included moving the "Mouse Size" option to the
  254. "Configuration" menu structure.
  255.  
  256. Added a "Propogate" function to the "Colors" setup. Some people didn't want
  257. the colors selected to propogate themselves into ALL PM Patrol windows. Now
  258. there's an option for this.
  259.  
  260. A "What's New" online help now appears upon each new program version. This
  261. only appears the first time you run a new version of PM Patrol.

  264. Version 2.03
  265. ------------
  266. Closing the Process Status window now destroys the window thus freeing OS/2
  267. resources for the Process Status function (@ 64K). 2.02 would only "hide"
  268. the window. There are no visable effects with this change.
  269.  
  270. The PM Patrol "Settings" pull-down menu now supports the ability to set the
  271. desired foreground and background colors by selecting RGB colors from a
  272. set of scroll bars. The new menu item can be found under "Colors".
  273.  
  274. Colors selected for the foreground and background of the PM Patrol main
  275. status line now propogate themselves into the other PM Patrol windows
  276. containing listbox items.
  277.  
  278. "System Info" PM Color descriptions now match those in the OS/2 Scheme
  279. Palette. This makes it easier to match-up.

  281. Fixed bug in Shared Memory navigation. Eroneous data was being picked-up.

  288. Starting with this version, PM Patrol is primarily supported via the CompuServe

  334. shared memory info. Additionally, this function allows you to monitor
  335. the System CPU and Application CPU time per thread - a huge advantage.
  336. This makes PM Patrol a real-time system wide "Profiler".
