  23. WHAT IS ON THIS DISK
  24. --------------------
  25.  This disk contains all the files necessary to update 
  26.  your copy of MiG-29 to version 1.03. The update 
  27.  consists of three files (not counting this Read Me 
  28.  file). They are:
  29.  
  30.    PATCH.BAT
  31.    PATCH.RTP
  32.    GOPATCH.EXE
  33.  
  34.  Be sure all three of these files are copied into the
  35.  directory that contains MiG-29 before going on with 
  36.  the update.
  37.  
  38. UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS
  39. -------------------
  40.  Switch to the directory that contains MiG-29 and type 
  41.  "PATCH" at the DOS prompt. You will see a number of 
  42.  messages indicating that various files are being 
  43.  updated.
  44.  
  45.  After a few minutes, the update should be complete.
  46.  You can verify the update by typing "CHECKVER" at the
  47.  DOS prompt. In addition to some memory and system
  48.  information, you should see the following lines:
  49.  
  50. CHECKVER V2.01 - Find Falcon 3.0, MiG-29 & Hornet version numbers
  51.

  55.  Now that the update is complete, you can delete the 
  56.  patch files (PATCH.BAT, PATCH.RTP and GOPATCH.EXE) 
  57.  from your hard drive.
  58.  
  59. Manual updating
  60. ---------------
  61.   If you have trouble with the normal update procedure,
  62.   you can update manually. Copy the GOPATCH.EXE and
  63.   PATCH.RTP files into your MiG-29 directory. Then 
  64.   switch to your MiG-29 directory and type "GOPATCH" 
  65.   at the DOS prompt.
  66.  
  67. PROGRAM FIXES AND ADDED FEATURES SINCE VERSION 1.0
  68. --------------------------------------------------
  69.  Version 1.03 fixes the following problems:
  70.  
  71. * Some users reported a problem where the views would
  72.   switch around (especially to the Left View) without 
  73.   any user input. This no longer happens.
  74.   
  75. * In response to a number of users who were having
  76.   trouble with sudden high G forces destroying their
  77.   aircraft without warning, we have added a G-damage
  78.   limiter. Press Alt-O (the letter O) to turn it on 
  79.   or off. When the G-damage limiter is on, it limits 
  80.   the amount of damage you can suffer from high G 
  81.   forces. You will still black out, but at least the 
  82.   plane will not turn to confetti. An indicator light
  83.   for this subsystem has been added to the Mach meter. 
  84.   When this light is on, the G-damage limiter is 
  85.   active. When it is off, the limiter is inactive. 
  86.   The G-damage limiter is inactive until you turn it on.
  87.  
  88. * Serious joystick control and calibration problems
  89.   found in version 1.0 have been fixed. The joystick
  90.   inputs are now linear, and there is a "null zone" of
  91.   20% of the stick's travel. What this means is that
  92.   the plane will react evenly to gradual increases in
  93.   stick pressure, and that slight movement of the stick
  94.   near the center point will not cause the plane to 
  95.   jerk around.
  96.  
  97. * This new version is fully compatible with version 2.0
  98.   of the TM-STICK.COM joystick TSR, developed jointly 
  99.   by Ken "Stinger" Richardson and ThrustMaster. With
  100.   their permission, we have incorporated much of the 
  101.   TM-STICK code into this update. As a result, you do 
  102.   not need to load TM-STICK.COM to fix your joystick 
  103.   problems. If you want the other features of TM-STICK, 
  104.   however, you will still have to load it. After you 
  105.   run this update, TM-STICK.COM will be on your hard 
  106.   drive in the directory that contains MiG-29. See the 
  107.   TM-STICK.TXT file for information on how to use this 
  108.   utility.
  109.  
  110.  Version 1.02 fixes the following problems:
  111.  
  112. * The MiG-29 vs. MiG-29 communications problems 
  113.   introduced in version 1.01 have been fixed.
  114.  
  115. * Several users reported a problem where if you create
  116.   a squadron, take off and return, create another
  117.   squadron, take off and return, then try to fly a
  118.   another mission with the first squadron, the game would
  119.   crash with a message saying "Fatal Error! Cannot
  120.   Create File!" This was related to the number of planes
  121.   in a squadron, and has been fixed.
  122.  
  123.  Version 1.01 fixes the following problems:
  124.  
  125. * Ground units in Red Flag will no longer fire upon your
  126.   MiG-29 near Nellis.
  127.  
  128. * The flight model has been improved, which is most
  129.   noticeable in nose stability, trim control, and
  130.   stability at high airspeeds.
  131.  
  132. * In Red Flag, enemy F-16s can now be assigned weapons
  133.   loads.
  134.  
  135. * Problems with joystick calibration are now fixed.
  136.  
  137. * Some users reported difficulty with rolling right.
  138.   This problem is now fixed.
  139.  
  140. * Adjustments to the flight model have made
  141.   maneuvering and control smoother.
  142.  
  143. * Some users reported problems with pitching upward
  144.   when in any outside view. The problem was that the
  145.   plane would not go beyond 30 degrees upward pitch
  146.   until the player switched back to an inside
  147.   cockpit view. This problem has been corrected.
  148.  
  149. * The airspeed scale on the HUD is now marked
  150.   correctly. Previously, 1100 kts was marked as 1000
  151.   kts (so it went 900, 1000, 1000, 1200).
  152.  
  153. * At extremely high airspeeds (in excess of 800
  154.   knots) the nose would rise no matter how the trim
  155.   controls were used. The trim controls are now
  156.   effective at all airspeeds.
  157.  
  158. SPECIAL PROBLEMS - ACER AND TSENG OWNERS
  159. ----------------------------------------
  160.  
  161.  There are a couple of special hardware problems that
  162.  have been reported. The first has to do with Acer
  163.  motherboards. The other problem only affects users who
  164.  have a video card with the Tseng ET4000/w32 chipset.
  165.  
  166.  Acer and Acros owners
  167.  ---------------------
  168.   Owners of Acer computers, Acros computers or other
  169.   computers with Acer motherboards using BIOS version
  170.   version 1.2 could not play MiG-29. When the game 
  171.   was run, it would simply freeze with a blank screen.
  172.  
  173.   The solution is to use a small TSR (terminate-and-
  174.   stay-resident) program called ACER.COM which we
  175.   created to deal with this incompatibility problem.
  176.   Running this update will automatically copy ACER.COM
  177.   into the directory containing MiG-29.
  178.  
  179.   If you have an Acer with BIOS version 1.2, type
  180.   "ACER" before you run MiG-29. This will load the 
  181.   ACER TSR into memory, where it will allow you to play 
  182.   MiG-29. When loaded, ACER.COM takes up 768 bytes 
  183.   (0.8K) of conventional memory. Since MiG-29 requires 
  184.   602K of conventional memory, be sure you have enough 
  185.   free RAM for this TSR as well.
  186.  
  187.   When you are done playing, type "ACER U" to unload
  188.   the TSR from memory.
  189.  
  190.  Tseng ET4000/w32 chipset
  191.  ------------------------
  192.   If you have a video card with the Tseng ET4000/w32
  193.   chipset, you may experience problems with frequent
  194.   white flashing in the simulation. You can download a
  195.   specific fix for this video problem from our Customer
  196.   Support BBS at (510)522-8909 or from GEnie, CompuServe
  197.   or America Online.
