ModShell V1.0
A Shell Program You Can Use to Play
Your Favorite MODs with Your Favorite Mod Player
By Eric Wedige and Craig Peeper
What Is ModShell?
-----------------
ModShell is a program that you can set up to use just about any Mod Player.
Instead of having to run the Mod Player from the command line, you see a
list of MODs that are in the directory, and you can play any MOD by double
clicking on the filename, or by pressing the enter key. You can tell the
program to play multiple MODs one at time by selecting the filenames of MOD
files by double right clicking, or by pressing the space bar on the filenames.
When all of the files are highlighted that you want played, you double click
anywhere or press enter and your MODs will be played. (Note: This program
does not play the file double clicked on to start a multiple MOD series,
unless it is part of the series to be played.) This program is very easy
to use and allows you to enjoy your MODs more.
How do I Setup ModShell?
------------------------
To set up ModShell you select Options from the File menu. A dialogue box
will pop up. The first line is labeled MOD PLAYER. In the space to the
right of the label, type the full path and name of your Mod Player. After
the name of the Mod Player you can type any parameters that you need to run
the player. The second line is labeled MOD DIRECTORY. In the space to the
right of the label, type the full path of the directory where you keep your
MODs. (No backslash '\' is needed at the end of the path.) The third line
is labeled DIRECTORY MASK. To see all the files in the directory use '*.*'
as the file mask, and to list only MOD files use '*.MOD'. You can put any
directory mask you want in the area, but these are the most useful.
A Sample set up would be:
MOD PLAYER C:\MODS\DMP\DMP ???parameters???
MOD DIRECTORY C:\MODS
DIRECTORY MASK *.MOD
This setup will use the player called DMP in the C:\MODS\DMP directory.
The directory with the mods in it is C:\MODS and will only display the
MODs in the directory.
If ModShell does not find 'ModShell.cfg' in the current directory, it will
create a new config with the Mod Directory as the current directory and the
Mod Player as 'DMP' in the current directory, and the file mask as '*.MOD'.
What do the other commands do?
------------------------------
In the 'File' Menu
Options [F4] will open the options dialog box explained above.
Open List [F3] will open a window displaying the default MOD directory.
You can open as many drive windows as you want, but usually no more than
one is needed to use the program. This command will be mainly used when
you have closed the drive window.
Close List [Alt+F3] will close the current drive window. If you have more
than one window open, it will only close only the top most drive window.
Select All [F5] will highlight all the files in the current drive window.
You can deselect any file by double right clicking on the filename. Then
you can play all the MODs that are highlighted. This is a lot easier than
double right clicking on all the filenames.
Deselect All [F6] will deselect any MODs that are selected MODs. This is
useful when you have a lot of MODs highlighted and want to quickly unselect
all the selected MOD files quickly.
Exit [Alt+X] will exit the program and return to dos.
And in the 'About' Menu
About shows the about box that is shown when the program is started.
Register opens a dialog box to register this program if you have
registered this program and received your unique ID number.
Be sure to fill in both the name and ID number fields in order to register.
If there are any problems check your spelling and our spelling
and make sure the ID number matches.
How do you use the parameters?
------------------------------
Usage: ModShell /COMMAND PARAMSTRING
/D Mod_Directory
/P Mod_Player
/M File_Mask
/h or /? --> opens a parameter help box
Sample: ModShell /D C:\MOD /P C:\MOD\DMP /M *.MOD
This will set C:\MOD as the MOD Directory, C:\MOD\DMP as the Mod Player,
and the file mask will be *.MOD.
Why Should I Register ModShell?
