How do we solve the problems associated with immigration?
Well, there are two main camps, with two totally different solutions.
First there is the defenders of the status quote, who believe that the
system would work if more popular support were present
And there is the reformists, who believe that the policies in place now are
unfair to citezen and imigrant alike.
The defenders of the status quote are many, and a vast majority are very
credible.
Rob Guriwitt, writer for the magazine, Governing, has stated
" When you have have a million new imigrants coming to your
nation yearly, who in there right mind would expect that nation,
pay for welfare of those same people, even though most aren't
supposed be here in the first place."
While Karen stone, reporter for The World Press Review, suggests that
"To stem the flow of terrorist, drugs, and imigrant's, the U.S. must adobt
tough new imigration laws, like the ones in the European comunity."
And acording to a 12 page Orange County Grand Jury Report
"imigrants are linked with rising welfare cost, crime, spread of disease,
deterioriation of schools, drug traficing, and a decrease in property
values."
Even our Govenor Pete Wilson has stated that "Imigrants are
sapping the economic vitality of our state. And should not be
able to recieve relief funds."
Here's some of the option's that are being considered....
Increase the size of the I.N.S.
the current number of I.N.S. agents, isn't large enough to
even hope to catch a quarter of the Illegal immigrants that
come across the border.
End all social programs for illegal aliens
With no hope of outside financial support, many
immigrants with no means of support, will not come.
Add new restrictions to immigration, like, English proficiency
tests, and proof of waiting employment.
If a immigrant isn't proficient in the language, the
chances of he or her becoming a burden to society is
much greater.
A person coming to this country based on just hope has a
far smaller chance of being prosperous than the person
with a job waiting.
On the other hand, many believe that many of societies ills are unjustly
blamed on immigrants. And the inequities of naturalization. leads to
substandard living conditions for immigrant and citizen alike.
The book Immigration Made easy states that total a maximum of
270,000 green cards are issued yearly.
Meaning that if there are only 270,000 legal immigrants yearly, the
remainder of the million people must be illegal.
Since most are undocumented workers, These numbers mean that
each year nearly a million immigrants will not pay income tax
until they are naturalized.
That means the number of undocumented workers doubles each year.
Making the undocumented worker a huge source of taxable
income, that remains untapped.
If., this source were tapped, there would be enough money to
more than cover the expense of the current social programs
for illegal aliens.
Peter Norton, author of the book Illegal Immigration No-
one wins, Has written that "Most, people blame societies ills
on the immigrant. When in truth, they are just as much victims
of the system as any one else."
He has also stated that "Most Americanss are under the false
understanding that immigrantss are here for citizenshipp,
but in reality most are here for work."
He also goes on to state that " In the last twenty year's ,
The trend of life longresidency is quickly becoming a thing of
the past. 70% of all currentimmigrantss will return to there
nation of origin by retirement. Based on this figure, a large
majority of immigrantss don't even require citizenship."
Here are some of the options being considered.
Make resident alien work permits readily available.
So immigrants will be paying there fair share of taxes.
Allow citizenshipp only to those who have been documented as
working aliens for 7 years.
This way there is an incentive to become documented and pay
taxes.
During the 7 years of residency, use part of the new tax money to make
available programs that will both educate and assimilate immigrants.
So there will be less of a chance that they will become a burden to
society when they become a citizenn.
Allow application of citizenship only to those who have completed the
required programs.
Make the a large portion of taxes needed to pay for social programs
for immigrantss, come from thetaxess collected from resident aliens.
IMPROVEMENTS, THAT CAN BE MADE.
1. With no one having reason to illegally cross the border, Border patrol
can concentratee on the illegal transport of drugs and contraband.
2.Immigrantss would no longer be forced move drugs as payment for
their passage.
3. American citizen would not have to pay such a high portion of their
taxes to help support immigrants.
4. Immigrants can be more accurately accounted for.
