  9.      What is a BLACK BOX?   A BLACK BOX
  10. is  a device that is hooked up to  your
  11. fone  that fixes your fone so that when
  12. you get a call,  the caller doesn't get
  13. charged for the call.  This is good for
  14. calls  up to 1/2 hour,  after 1/2  hour
  15. the Fone Co.  gets suspicious, and then
  16. you can guess what happens.

  18. The way it works:
  19.  
  20.      What  this little beauty  does  is
  21. keep the line voltage from dropping  to
  22. 10v  when  you answer your  fone.   The
  23. line is insted kept at 36v and it  will
  24. make  the  fone think that it is  still
  25. ringing while your talking.  The reason
  26. for the 1/2 hour time limit is that the
  27. Fone CO. thinks that something is wrong
  28. after 1/2 an hour of ringing.

  30.      All  parts  are  available   Radio
  31. Shack.   Using the least possible parts
  32. and arangement,  the cost is $0.98 !!!!
  33. And  that  is  parts for two  of  them!
  34. Talk  about  a deal!   If you  want  to
  35. splurge  then  you can get a  small  PC
  36. board,  and  a switch.   There are  two
  37. schematics  for this box,  one  is  for
  38. most  normal fones.   The second one is
  39. for  fones  that don't  work  with  the
  40. first.  It was made for use with a Bell
  41. Trimline touch tone fone.

  59. connect together for the switch.

  79. recommend  using.   It  is neat and  is
  80. very easy to hook up.

  101.      Once you have hooked up all  the
  102. parts,  you must figure out what set of
  103. wires  go to the line and which  go  to
  104. the fone.   This is because of the fact
  105. that LED's must be put in, in a certain
  106. direction.  Depending  on which way you
  107. put the LED is what controls what wires
  108. are for the line & fone.
  109.  
  110. How to find out:
  111.  
  112.      Hook  up the box in one  direction
  113. using one set of wires for line and the
  114. other for fone.
  115.  
  116. *NOTE*  For Model I switch should be OFF.
  117. *NOTE*  For Model ][ switch  should  be
  118.         set to side connecting the led.
  119.  
  120.      Once  you have hooked it up,  then
  121. pick up the fone and see if the LED  is
  122. on.  If it is, the LED will be lit.  If
  123. is  doesn't light then switch the wires
  124. and try again.  Once you know which are
  125. which  then label  them.   *NOTE*  - If
  126. neither  directions  worked  then  your
  127. switch was in the wrong position.   Now
  128. lable   the   switch  in  its   current
  129. position as BOX ON.

  131. How to use it:
  132.  
  133.      The purpose of this box is not  to
  134. poeple  who  call you so it would  make
  135. sence  that  it  can only  be  used  to
  136. receive! calls.   When the box is  *ON*
  137. then you may only recieve calls.   Your
  138. fone will ring like normal and the  LED
  139. on  the box will flash.   If you answer
  140. the fone now, then the LED will
  141. light and the caller will not be charged.
  142. Hang  up  the fone after you  are  done
  143. talking like normal.   You will not  be
  144. able  to  get a dial-tone or call  when
  145. the  box is on,  so turn the box  *OFF*
  146. for  normal calls.   I don't  recommend
  147. that you leave it on all the  time,  as
  148. you don't want it to answer when Ma
  149. Bell calls!
