Since Islam stresses our freedom of action, it is up to us to develop the good or bad within us during our lives. The decisions we make about this will be evaluated on a kind of day of judgement which the Qur'an (ie. 82.1) describes in great detail. Then all will be resurrected and God will hand out eternal reward or punishment on the basis of how we lived. For those who have lived well there await the delights of a Garden of Paradise with it's cool fountains and endless feasts. For those who have lived badly, Jahannam or hell and horrific tortures of fire and punishment await.
