  2.     The Professional Developers Kit (PDK) CD ROM contains the Beta release
  3.     of OS/2, the 32-bit graphics engine, WIN 3.1 (which works with this
  4.     Beta release of OS/2), OS/2 Redbooks and Technical Library, Network
  5.     Programs, Productivity Tools, etc.
  6.  
  7.     The products provided on this CD ROM are beta level and are provided
  8.     'AS IS'.  There is no warranty or service implied with respect to the
  9.     program(s) included.  You may monitor CompuServe for any information
  10.     related to this beta product.  Please submit your questions/problems/
  11.     comments via CompuServe.  We appreciate your input and will forward
  12.     it to the appropriate personnel for consideration in the next
  13.     release.

  22.     In the root directory you will find the following files:
  23.  
  24.     README.NOW   - This file.
  25.     INSTALL.CMD  - This program is for OS/2 users.  It can be used
  26.                    to install over 20 packages including OS/2 from this CD
  27.                    ROM.  These packages include Beta IBM products and
  28.                    selected Productivity Tools.
  29.     INSTALL.BAT  - This program is for DOS users to install OS/2 from CD ROM
  30.                    (only OS/2 is installed with this program).
  31.     MMPM2UPD.LST - file used by the system

  35.  To install OS/2 Beta using your CD ROM drive on a system running DOS:
  36.  
  37.     From your CD ROM drive, type 'INSTALL'.
  38.     (you will need 2 blank 2.0MB diskettes and you will be labelling them
  39.     'INSTALLATION' and 'Operating System/2 Diskette 1')

  41.     After you have followed the directions, you will be asked to reboot
  42.     your system.

  48.  To install OS/2 Beta using your CD ROM drive on a system running OS/2:
  49.  
  50.     From your CD ROM drive, type 'INSTALL'.
  51.     Select 'Install OS/2 2.0 Beta from CD ROM' from the menu.
  52.     You will then have to select (highlight) your SCSI adapter type from the
  53.        menu of choices.
  54.        Note: if you have IBM equipment and an IBM SCSI adapter, your choice
  55.              is easy, choose 'IBM SCSI  IBM SCSI Adapter'
  56.     Click on 'ADD'.
  57.     Go to the configuring screen (one of the background windows) and you
  58.        will be prompted for Source Floppy Drive
  59.        Note: you will need 2 blank 2.0MB diskettes to create
  60.              'OS/2 Installation Diskette' and
  61.              'OS/2 Install Disk 1 with <adapter card name>'
  62.     Once the diskettes are created and labelled, put the
  63.       'OS/2 Installation Diskette' in drive A and reboot your system.

  69.     On the 'Welcome to OS/2 Screen' you will see a message that you need
  70.     OS/2 diskettes 1 through 14 to complete installation.  You may ignore
  71.     this message and press enter to continue installing from the CD ROM.
  72.     The screens that will appear are the same as the OS/2 2.0 install screens
  73.     but you are installing from CD ROM rather than diskettes.

  75.     You will see an error message from the CONFIG.SYS flash by.  Please
  76.     IGNORE this message.

  78.     When you are asked to make your selection, please select 'USER SELECTED
  79.     FEATURES' (not Install All of OS/2).  If you don't, your CD ROM drive
  80.     will not be configured.  Select 'MORE' to the right of CD ROM Device
  81.     support and check IBM CD ROM Device Drivers.
  82.  
  83.     At the end of the install you will see the final OS/2 Setup and
  84.     Installation screen, which asks you to 'Remove the diskette from Drive
  85.     A' and 'Press Enter to restart your system'.  IGNORE this screen and
  86.     press CTL-ALT-DEL to restart your system. (Make sure that the diskette
  87.     has been removed from Drive A).

  89.     OS/2 is now installed and will start up.  It is important
  90.     that when OS/2 starts up for the first time YOU DO A 'SHUTDOWN'.

  92.     As soon as the disk light turns off and the desktop appears set up,
  93.     please do a 'SHUTDOWN'.  Follow the message to restart your system.

  96.   INSTALLING the other products on the CD ROM
  97.  
  98.     From the CD ROM drive, type 'INSTALL' and select whatever products you
  99.     want to install on your hardfile.

  101.     Note:  You may want to create install diskettes if you want to install
  102.     this OS/2 Beta code on other systems that do not have a CD ROM drive.
  103.     (The license agreement permits you to make 9 additional copies of the
  104.     programs on the CD ROM).  You would select 'Create IBM Beta Product
  105.     Diskettes Only' from the Install menu.

  107.     Note:  The Novell NetWare Requester is included in this package.  You
  108.     must read and accept the IBM NetWare License agreement before using the
  109.     code. This license agreement can be found on the Novell Netware
  110.     documentation diskette.
