  16. This is a major reworking of Rainer Kowallik's QL emulator for the
  17. Amiga. Most of the new features have been added by Mark J Swift
  18. (e-mail: msw@blackpool.ac.uk) - Rainer is no-longer involved in
  19. the project. The release includes full assembler source and a QDOS
  20. support disk.

  58. The Sinclair QL is a black slab-like computer based around Motorola's
  59. 68008 micro-processor. The QL was launched as the follow-up to the
  60. ZX Spectrum, aimed at the business market rather than the games market
  61. and was supplied with wordprocessor, spreadsheet, database and charting
  62. programs. It features a fully multi-tasking operating system (QDOS)
  63. and a very good built-in BASIC. The QL failed to achieve the mass-market
  64. appeal of its predecessor, but nevertheless attracted a large dedicated
  65. user base... which is still going strong.

  68. INSTALLING THE EMULATOR

  70. 1. Create a directory on your destination volume for the Amiga-QDOS
  71.    binaries and documentation.
  72.  
  73. 2. Make an assignment to this directory as "QLBOOT:". Consider making
  74.    the same assignment in your start-up sequence.

  76. 3. Copy the contents of the archive QDOS4amiga1.lha to QLBOOT:

  78. 4. Move the contents of QLBOOT:c to your own 'c' directory.

  81. CREATING THE QDOS SUPPORT DISK
  82.  
  83. Creating the QDOS support disk on an Amiga requires that the xfs
  84. filesystem is mounted. XFS allows access to a multitude of disk
  85. formats including QL (QDOS) disks. XFS is can be found on the aminet
  86. in disk/misc.

  88. 1. Mount the xfsd filesystem.
  89.  
  90. 2. Copy QDOS4amiga3.lha to RAM: - or into the same directory
  91.    as 'QLdisk.unLHA'.
  92.  
  93. 3. Double-click on the 'QLdisk.unLHA' icon.
  94.    Insert a blank disk into DF0: at the appropriate moment... then wait.
  95.    Rename the resultant QDOS (QL) disk as 'QLutils:'

  97. Alternatively you could follow the instructions in the file
  98. 'QDOS4amiga3.readme' which explains how to create the disk from a CLI.
