  3. Diamond Stealth64 users with bios version "U" may experience video driver-
  4. related problems.  Upgrade your Windows video driver.  Get 964133.EXE
  5. (self-extracting) or later, from Diamond (CIS users can GO DMNDONLINE).

  9. ------------------
  10. Older Mach64 drivers may crash during Quicktime for Windows playback.  Backup
  11. your SYSTEM.INI file and ensure that the following entry exists in your
  12. [Macx] section.

  16. When scanning in 24-bit mode, a warning will pop up if the suggested change
  17. is not present.  VidFun was tested with the latest Mach32/64 drivers.

  23. SHAREWARE REGISTRATION
  24. ----------------------
  25. 1. Select Help-Registering VidFun from it's Main menu.
  26. 2. Complete the automated registration form or print the Help file topic.
  27. 3. Send your registration form and fee.

  29. CompuServe subscribers can GO SWREG and register # 6583.

  31. After registration is received, you will be provided with a key (i.e., S/N)
  32. that is valid for all VidFun 1.x versions; in appreciation, the latest
  33. registered version will be sent to you as well.  Registered users are
  34. provided with a telephone number for technical support.

  36. This key is linked to your registered name and can be used on single
  37. personal computer or workstation which is not used as a server.  Another key
  38. is required for each use on another personal computer or workstation.  VidFun
  39. is 100% fully-functional (no crippled functions); as such, the key is the
  40. only difference between being registered and unregistered.  Under no
  41. circumstance should you disclose your key to anyone.

  43. Since the key is valid for all 1.x versions, we intend to update frequently
  44. and at will.  With your support, updates will include more multimedia
  45. devices/features and file formats, exotic image processing, scanning
  46. processes (eg., descreen)... and eventually full hypermedia authoring.
  47. Support the Shareware Concept and we'll develop this product (and others)
  48. like nothing seen commecially ... otherwise, it will simply die from lack
  49. of support.

  52. SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTION

  54. You are encouraged to copy and distribute VIDFUN15.ZIP or VIDFUN15.EXE in
  55. it's unmodified and uninstalled form, to all your friends and associates as
  56. well as upload to various online services.

  58. Shareware Distributors that charge a nominal fee for media reproduction and
  59. distribution may copy and distribute in accordance with recognized Users
  60. Group and/or Association of Shareware Professionals guidelines.  If
  61. distributing via CDROM, the complete set of extracted archive files may be
  62. copied to a separate directory without modification (as a convenience to
  63. new users,  please include a copy of VBRUN300.DLL somewhere on the CDROM).
  64. As indicated in VidFun's setup, you must explicity agree to and optionally
  65. state the following disclaimer on your distributed media:

  73. Online services/BBSs may recompress the original archive to another archive
  74. format (eg., ARJ, LHA) provided all original archive files (see README.1ST)
  75. are included in their unmodifed, uninstalled form.  A README (or equivalent)
  76. file may be added stating anti-virus software used to verify archive and/or
  77. contact information of BBS or Shareware Distributor (eg., BBS phone, Address,
  78. Web site...); no other addition to the program archive is allowed.

  112. DIAGNOSING FLI/FLC SETUP
  113. ------------------------
  114. If you get MCI driver errors when opening FLI/FLC files you may have an
  115. incomplete setup.  Ensure proper setup by using Media Player to test
  116. playback.  Check your SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files for the following entries.

  129. APPLE QUICKTIME FOR WINDOWS (QTW)
  130. ---------------------------------
  131. To run *.MOV (Apple QTW MOVie) files, MCI (Media Control Interface) drivers
  132. for Windows are required.  Use the Media Player applet to verify setup.

  134. To get the latest QTW drivers:
  135.  
  136. 1. Visit Apple Computers' WWW Home Page

  140. 2. Click on Quicktime VR link and follow succeding links.
  141. 3. Download QTINSTAL.EXE and run it from Windows.
  142.  
  143. Note:  Win95's Media Player does not seem to support MOV playback;
  144.        however, MCI-enabled apps, such as VidFun, can still play Quicktime
  145.        MOV files as long as the MCIQTW.DRV exists (at this writing QTW
  146.        2.03 still supports MCI).

  148. If your video card seems incompatible with MOV playback, backup your QTW.INI
  149. file then modify the following sections' entries to look like this:

  160. If you get MCI errors during playback, backup your SYSTEM.INI and check for

  162. your system).

  172. VIDEO SETUP & DIAGNOSIS
  173. -----------------------
  174.  
  175. Firstly, you MUST have Windows 3.1 or (or WfW).   Win95 is preferred.
  176.

  178. 1. Should I update to VFW 1.1e (or later) or QTW 2.x (or later)?
  179.  
  180.    Win95 users already have the latest VFW drivers; Win31 users that play
  181.    video files encoded with new compression schemes may get an MCI error and
  182.    must download VFW11e.exe (or later); run it in a temporary directory
  183.    (self-extracting), then run it's setup.  For QTW, see previous section.
  184.    Always back up your entire \windows and \windows\system directory so that
  185.    you can restore your entire setup.

  187. 2. Is my video card incompatible ?
  188.  
  189.    Change your Windows graphics mode to VGA 640x480 (16 colors).  Video files
  190.    should play (jerky, slow and grainy).  Test other video modes; if specific
  191.    modes don't playback correctly, get/install updated drivers from your
  192.    card's manufacturer.  For QTW, see previous section regarding QTW.INI
  193.    changes.

  195. 3. Insufficient Windows memory?
  196.  
  197.    Close all open applications.  If video file plays then "insufficient
  198.    memory" was the issue.  "Ram-doublers" may help or cause problems;
  199.    switch it off if you suspect a problem.

  201. 4. Multi-tasking interactions with other apps?
  202.  
  203.    Close all open applications - DOS sessions, screen savers, clocks,
  204.    schedulers, Email/fax/comm apps, power savers ... anything using a timer
  205.    or is in background.  If video file plays then one or several of those
  206.    apps caused an incompatible interaction.

  208. 5. 32-bit drive access?
  209.  
  210.    Depending on your hard disk, disk controller, non-standard DOS driver,
  211.    and bus type (eg., VLB, PCI, ISA, EISA), a combination can exist that
  212.    may be incompatible with video playback.  Activate Control Panel and
  213.    386 Enhanced icon; TURN OFF 32-bit access (activate System icon in
  214.    Win95).  If that resolves your problem then it had to do with one of the
  215.    components in the hard disk sub-substem(s).

  217. 6. Compressed drives.
  218.  
  219.    Do not play video files from compressed drives (eg.,  Stacker, ...).
  220.    The device driver will interfere with rapid data transfer.  Always place
  221.    video files in the uncompressed drive.
