¢¢ MINUTES OF THE JULY 1990 MEETING¢¢ GENERAL MEETING:¢¢ It's not the same! How can you have¢a smooth running meeting when ALEX¢PIGNATO is not at the helm (Answer,¢You can't). ALEX and his wife. were on¢a one week vacation at WESLEY COLLEGE,¢in DOVER DELEWARE, with an ELDERHOSTEL¢Group, actually living and attending¢classes on campus! If we were out on¢the sea you might say it was choppy¢but thanks to KRIS HOLTAGAARD and his¢demonstrations all turned out well,¢and the ship made it to safe harbor.¢ ¢ We had three interested visitors¢attend this meeting:¢ 1. ANTHONY FALCONE came from the¢BRONX to our meeting after contacting¢ALEX. ANTHONY had written to Antic¢Magazine asking how he could modify¢his Atari 800 Computer to run¢"Newsroom", Atari Writer Plus", "P/S¢Companion" etc. Antic Magazine¢suggested he get in touch with the¢OL'HACKERS ATARI USER GROUP and sent¢him ALEX'S telephone number and¢address. Altho the programs won't run¢on his "800", KRIS HOLTAGAARD was able¢to make a few suggestions, that made¢his trip worthwhile!¢ 2. JIM EVANS, a former young¢OL'HACKER paid us a visit (It was good¢to see JIM'S smiling face again, hope¢to see more of him).¢ 3. DAVE MICHAELS from Oceanside.¢DAVE went from person to person asking¢the members what their BBS handle was.¢As it turned out DAVE did know a lot¢of members from his hobby on BBS'ing.¢¢ LETTERS AND INFORMATION:¢¢ Thanks to JOHN AALTO. from the Long¢Island ATARI USER GROUP,we were¢furnished with notes and a fill in on¢the happenings at the last meeting of¢NEAR*US, which we missed. As luck will¢have it the next NEAR*US meeting falls¢on SEPTEMBER 15th and that's the same¢day as our monthly meeting. NOW WHAT?¢JOHN will soon be putting out a "Best¢of NEAR*US" newsletter in the near¢future, to keep all abreast of the¢latest. ¢ JOAN RYAN from ST.LOUIS, ACE, sent¢ALEX a couple of winning disks for our¢library. One being "MASKMAKER" issued¢by their USER GROUP last "HOLLOWEEN",¢and it comes just in time for our¢OCTOBER 13th EDUCATIONAL meeting,¢with AL SHARKIS putting together the¢program. This program and disk should¢go over great with the members¢children and grand children, who are¢invited to that meeting. The second¢disk was P/S Icons, Fonts, Borders and¢Tiles. More great icons to add to our¢library collection. ¢ How many members knew the meaning of¢"KIITOS"? None, knew it meant "Thanks"¢in FINLAND'S language. NITA FILLMORE,¢from B.A.C.E., Bakersfield CA., wrote¢ALEX to say hello and sent a FINNISH¢ATARI POSTER and a pen with KIITOS¢carved out of the barrel. ¢ ALEX wrote to ICK CULP, 8 BIT SIG¢for ACORN KERNEL ATARI USER GROUP in¢ROCHESTER. N.Y. requesting a two disk¢set of "Basically Speaking" highlighed¢in their newsletter over the past¢year. These disks, if received would¢be of great help to newcomers. ¢ Then came some good news and some¢bad news. First the bad, HORST DEWITZ,¢and OL'HACKER and the ABBUC contact¢wrote ALEX saying he will miss a few¢meetings. A very large job effort at¢work has forced Saturday work, but he¢hopes to be back as soon as possible.¢Now the good news, the OL'HACKERS¢annual picnic is to be held at¢Bethpage State Park picnic area at 12¢noon, Sunday August 5th.(which is¢past, by the time you read this). JIM¢EVANS has reserved an area for our¢group. Now all we need is a beautiful¢day in the park.¢ ALAN SHARKIS requested club members¢to turn in a listing of the number and¢ages of controlable children who will¢be attending the October 13th¢EDUCATION meeting.¢ Our former president, AL BEITCHMAN,¢is presently home recovering from¢surgery. All the OL'HACKERS wish AL a¢speedy recovery. ¢¢ DOOR PRIZES:¢¢ The biggest suprise was HARRY¢TUTHILL drew another blank (only 2 so¢far). Looks like HARRY is going to¢have to find a new number on the sign¢in sheet.¢¢ This months winners were:¢¢Graphic Editor/ H. PEGLER¢P/S UTILITIES w/DOCS¢¢ANTIC MARCH '86/ A. FALCONE¢GAMES TURBO BASIC¢¢ANTIC MARCH '86/ J. LEBER¢GAMES w/DOCS¢¢SUPRISE DISK A. SHARKIS¢¢ DEMONSTRATIONS:¢¢ Two new library disks that were¢demoed, went over fabulously as they¢kept all members interested. The first¢being "Maskmaker" , thanks to the¢programming efforts of JOAN RYAN, and¢members of ACE ST. LOUIS, and the¢second "The ABC of CPR" by ATARI CORP.¢These disks should get plenty of play¢in many homes.¢¢ KRIS HOLTAGAARD then demoed some of¢the new features he is including in¢version 4.0 of WQNR DOS. You will be¢able to copy using one disk drive with¢disk swap. Entering list will count¢the files and show them with three¢columns. two columns if you use Dirs.¢ ¢ Then came "Character Generator"¢which allows you to add Video¢Production Titles to your home videos.¢Using the large text the screen turns¢black, in order to get something¢placed on top of another video, you¢need this black screen. It will make¢your titles in color, 255 to be exact.¢Credits can be placed anywhere on the¢screen, any size, any number of lines.¢KRIS prefers a flash credit instead of¢the scroll. His next disk to come out¢will be all video tapeing. KRIS has¢attempted to do with software what a¢lot of companies will sell you in¢hardware/software, you can save money¢using this method. This program is a¢"Character Generator" with much more¢memory than a very expensive¢commercial ones. The program will give¢you 255 pages. KRIS' broadcasting¢experience has come in handy while¢designing his new video titler¢program. When questioned about his¢design of "OZONE BBS" used by CARLOS¢HURTADO, Kris explained, he used "Text¢Pro" and "PRINT TOOL" (also in the¢library) and then selected the large¢print. ¢¢ Which reminded KRIS of his "Labeler¢Program". Menu driven and having four¢categories of label types¢¢ 1. Auto to Auto¢ 2. Auto to Manual¢ 3. Manual to Auto¢ 4. Manual to Manual¢¢ Due to the late hour, JACK GEDALIUS¢deferred his demo of the "Atari 1020¢Plotter" (remember this little¢printer?) until our August 11th¢meeting.¢¢ FUTURE MEETING DATES:¢¢ The library has furnished us the new¢meeting dates that will run through¢JUNE 1991. They are:¢¢SEPTEMBER 15 1990 FEBRUARY 9 1991¢OCTOBER 13 1990 MARCH 9 1991¢NOVEMBER 10 1990 APRIL 13 1991¢DECEMBER 15 1990 MAY 11 1991¢JANUARY 12 1991 JUNE 1 1991¢¢¢ All dates are a SATURDAY and are¢scheduled for the PLAINVIEW/OLD¢BETHPAGE LIBRARY.¢¢ Remember........the next OL' HACKERS¢ATARI USERS GROUP meeting is scheduled¢for AUGUST 11, at 11:30am.¢¢ Sincerely,¢¢ AL ATKINS¢ ¢
