¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢ Editor's Message¢¢ This is the last of these columns¢ that is written by me, so hang in¢ there. Things can only improve from¢ here on in!¢¢ There are changes in the lineup of¢ editors for the newsletter. They¢ were determined at the October¢ meeting, after I had already written¢ the rest of my columns. See the¢ October meeting minutes for the new¢ lineup. There are also changes in¢ the email addresses. Please be sure¢ to check them, also. Due to the fact¢ that we had our October meeting late¢ in the month and the November meeting¢ early in the month, this newsletter¢ may not be mailed out at the November¢ meeting. If this is the case, it¢ will be mailed as soon after that¢ meeting as possible.¢¢ On Side 1, the program that runs from¢ the spacebar is TRAPPED.BAS. It's a¢ game in which you and a partner can¢ be 'hunter' and 'hunted,' or, if you¢ want to play as a single player, you¢ can take either role with the¢ computer playing the other. There¢ are nine positions on the board.¢ Instructions tell you what constitues¢ winning or losing for each role, so¢ please pay attention to them. The¢ game plays slowly. I wonder if it¢ can be speeded up by using¢ TurboBasic? RON? Please also check¢ for GUNS.BAS, an artillery simulation¢ game. You and your opponent must¢ fire at each other over terrain that¢ is set for each round by the¢ computer, as is the wind direction¢ and velocity. You must determine the¢ angle of your gun and the powder¢ charge to be used. The game moves to¢ a new terrain whenever a player hits¢ his opponent's gun and the game is¢ over when powder runs out. The¢ Wizard's Sword is a very elaborate¢ text adventure game which is also¢ found on Side 1. To use it, copy the¢ files WIZARD1.BAS, WIZARD2.BAS and¢ WIZARD3.BAS to a new disk with DOS¢ files on it. Boot the new disk in¢ drive 1 from BASIC and run¢ WIZARD1.BAS. RECOVER.COM is a¢ SpartaDos utility which helps to fix¢ problems in SpartaDos 3.2x¢ directories. Load it with the <L>¢ option from DOS. I haven't tested¢ it, so you're on your own!¢ SHPTOOL2.COM allows you to print out¢ thumbnails of all the Print Shop¢ graphics on a Print Shop Graphics¢ Disk. Load it from DOS with the <L>¢ option.¢¢ On Side 2, the program that runs from¢ the spacebar is CLAYTON WALNUM's¢ Slave Cellars of Golgoloth, an¢ adventure game. The filename is¢ SLVCEL.BAS, if you want to copy it to¢ another disk. Please also check for¢ three files beginning with the word,¢ "TITLE." TITLE.BAS is a program that¢ allows you to create fancy title¢ screens for your BASIC programs and¢ then include them in your program.¢ TITLE.DAT is a data file needed by¢ TITLE.BAS. Finally, TITLE.DOC gives¢ you the commands you need in order to¢ use TITLE.BAS. You should copy these¢ three files onto a new disk with DOS¢ files on it, and use them from there.¢ EARTRN.BAS is for the budding¢ musicians out there. It's an ear-¢ training program that's rather¢ elaborate. Try it out. Finally,¢ there's MINIDOS.COM. This is a small¢ substitute for Atari DOS but can also¢ be used in conjunction with Atari¢ DOS. To use it, copy it to a new¢ disk with DOS files on it and rename¢ it AUTORUN.SYS.¢¢ All of our programs this issue came¢ from The Pool Disk.¢¢ I hope you enjoy this issue!¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢¢
