¢ SUPER BULK FORMATTER¢ --------------------¢¢ by Ron Fetzer member of the¢ OL' HACKERS ATARI USERS GROUP¢¢¢ How many times has this happened¢to you? You write a program and when¢you are ready to save it you realize¢that you don't have any disk space¢available. You can't go to DOS to¢format a new disk because you will¢lose the program in the memory. The¢SUPER BULK FORMATTER will solve this¢and some other problems. Not only will¢it format disks but it will do it in¢the fastest possible time. In addition¢you can also add DOS.SYS. to the disks¢as they are being formatted. You can¢format the disks in all 3 densities¢. DUP.SYS. is not written to the disk¢because there is no way to call it¢from BASIC. If you need a lot of¢formatted disks such as Disk¢Librarians, Newsletter Editors or for¢copying this is the program for you.¢¢ MASTER DISK: To make a master¢disk, format a disk in single density¢and put SUPER DOS on it. Then copy the¢file BULKFORM.BAS from the newsletter¢disk on your newly formatted disk. Do¢NOT use the file BULKFORM.BAS with the¢newsletter otherwise you could format¢the newsletter and erase all files¢from it. If you do not have SUPER DOS¢you can order it from our library. We¢have 2 disks with SUPER DOS vers. 5.1¢on side B of the disks. Library disk #¢602 is a game disk and library disk #¢537 is a disk with utilities. You can¢order each disk for $3.00 including¢shipping from our librarian HAROLD¢PEGLER.¢¢ REQUIREMENT: This program¢REQUIRES SUPERDOS and 2 disk drives.¢SUPERDOS returns an error code when a¢formatting error is encountered. DOS¢2.5 dos not send an error code but¢keeps trying to format forever. ALL¢the format XIO commands are for¢SUPERDOS and they will NOT work with¢DOS 2.5.¢¢ FEATURES: This program will¢format from 2 to an unlimited amount¢of disk at one session. You can specify¢how many attempts at formatting(1-5)¢You can format a side or sides¢in SINGLE DENSITY, 1050 DENSITY or¢DOUBLE DENSITY. Your disk drives must¢be capable of formatting in these¢densities. If you try to format in¢DOUBLE DENSITY on an unmodified 810¢disk drive your computer most likely¢will lock up because an 810 drive¢cannot do DOUBLE DENSITY. You can¢format 1 side or 2 sides. You can¢write DOS.SYS to the sides as they are¢being formatted. If you encounter a¢BAD SIDE the program will stop and let¢you label the side. To continue press¢START and the program will go to the¢other disk.¢¢ OPERATIONS: While one disk is¢being formatted you are asked to¢INSERT or REVERSE the disk in the¢other drive. You have plenty of time¢to do this (about 50 seconds per¢side.)¢¢ LIMITATIONS: The MINIMUM amount¢of disks you can format are 2. There¢is no MAXIMUM amount. If you format an¢odd number of disk on 2 sides the LAST¢SIDE will be in the wrong drive and¢will not be formatted. You can¢overcome this by specifying an even¢number of disks and format one side¢twice.¢¢ This program is in the PUBLIC¢DOMAIN. If you have any comments or¢suggestions they are welcome.
