:::::::::::::¢ (The BASIC program is on this disk,¢ press the SPACEBAR from MAIN MENU)¢¢ CHIP CHECKER Version 2 June 23, 1991¢ by Bahamut, and printed by OL'HACKERS¢ With THANKS.¢ Version 2 is not a lot¢ different than version 1, except for¢ some information about vendors who¢ sell upgrade chips. This information¢ is presented so that people will¢ know where they can buy Atari 8-bit ¢ stuff. The loss of Antic and Analog¢ magazines makes it difficult to ¢ locate Atari items for sale. ¢¢ Version 2 will run on ALL ATARI 8-bit¢ personal computers (and I do mean¢ ALL) EXCEPT the original and now very¢ rare 8K 400. It has been tested¢ on a 16K 600XL and 400 and will work¢ with DOS on these 16K systems (a¢ graphics 7 picture which eats up ¢ memory will not appear on 16K ¢ systems). Chip Checker 2 MIGHT work¢ on an 8K 400 if you load it from¢ tape.¢ Frankly, Chip Checker 2¢ is not a very sophisticated program¢ and you can do the same thing very¢ easily without it by just looking up ¢ the PEEKs in Mapping the ATARIby Ian ¢ Chadwick. I'm working on a newer ¢ version that analyses the amount of¢ RAM (and tests it) as well as some¢ other features.¢ Those of you who have Revision B¢ BASIC should very SERIOUSLY consider¢ switching to Revision C.¢ B & C ComputerVisions (address in the¢ program) sells it for $15. Rev. B¢ has some serious bugs. A stopgap ¢ measure is using a program called¢ "Rev. B to C Converter" by Matthew ¢ Ratcliff (a.k.a. Matt*Ratt.) It ¢ makes an AUTORUN.SYS file that ¢ switches your BASIC cart into ¢ RAM and then tweaks it into Rev. C ¢ BASIC. I was considering tossing it¢ into this archive, but wasn't ¢ sure if he would mind...it should be¢ available on many Atari BBSes or PD¢ software distributors.¢ Call Bates Motel BBS (209)463-5842¢ 2400 baud 24 hrs a day. (EDITORS NOTE: Also remember to call¢ The OL' HACKERS affiliated BBS, at¢ (516) 234-4943 for loads of 8 bit¢ stuff and info.)¢ ¢ ()() end ()() ¢
