Hicswa - OHAUG¢¢ When using First Xlent Word Processor¢ for Mail Merge with Merge Codes, the¢ program prints a hard copy for each¢ of the merge groups: EG: Name,¢ address.¢¢ There are times I need several copies¢ of a document without Merges. Instead¢ of using agenda for Number of Copies¢ I will type M for Merge in Print Menu¢ & stop when required number are¢ printed. This works well for single¢ sheets.¢¢ Notice when printing copies on Epson¢ I must use format codes for page¢ length and printed lines per page¢ followed by zeroed header:¢¢ -1:HD0-0.¢¢ Without that, the printer adds blank¢ header lines atop the pages which¢ shifts text downward.¢¢ Epson counts length of 8-1/2 x ll¢ page as 61 lines.¢¢ To determine number of TEXT lines in¢ a document I add numbered lines after¢ my text on bottom of the page.¢¢ EG: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 etc.¢¢ Normal TEXT length on 8-1/2 x 11 is¢ 54 lines. If any numbers appear on¢ page 2 then last number on PAGE 1 is¢ minused from 54 to determine lines of¢ text. I use this number in Format¢ line atop of the document and delete¢ all numbers at bottom of page.¢¢ Occasionally I will include some¢ blank top/bottom lines to total 54 or¢ 61 so EPSON prints document in same¢ place of each page for multiple¢ copies.¢¢ The Challenge¢¢ I attempted to use ATARI DOS 2.5 for¢ a File of Directory Titles. No way¢ Jose. DOS A (DIR) prints a list to¢ screen or printer but not to a disk¢ drive file.¢¢ I tried DOS A (DIR) as follows:¢¢ A - D1:,D8:FILES.¢¢ Lights went on, the motor whirred.¢ After whirring stopped and lights¢ went out, DOS awaited next¢ instruction. It was DOS C (Copy)¢ ¢ EG: C - D8:FILES,S: (To screen).¢¢ Only name in D8:FILES was "DOS SYS"¢ the first filename on drive #1 disk.¢¢ I booted First Xlent Word Processor.¢ FroM DISC. MENU #1, DIR was¢ selected. Names of disc files in¢ drive #1 were listed on screen. Upon¢ departing from DISC MENU, the screen¢ was wiped clean. But I discovered a¢ way to keep list of files on screen.¢¢ When instructed to LOAD a non-¢ existing file, program reported ERROR¢ 170 and returned to the editor.¢ Directory was still listed. BUT.....¢ when I went to PRINT MODE, nothing¢ was printed. Upon returning to the¢ EDITOR Screen, it was blank. Even¢ tried SAVEing it to disk--nothing.¢¢ Can an Ol'Hacker explain how to bring¢ disk directory into my First Xlent WP¢ so I can abridge, manipulate,¢ position it anywhere on a page?¢¢ Submit solution in an article so I¢ may read about it in the News¢ Letter.¢¢ END¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢¢
