¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢ Editor's Message¢ by Alan Sharkis¢¢ This issue of the OHAUG Newsletter¢ has taken a good deal of my time,¢ represents lots of change (and¢ potential change,) and, I believe,¢ reflects the desires of the user¢ group to go forward as much as¢ possible. But for now, I am going to¢ ask each and every one of you to read¢ the entire Editor's Message and ALL¢ RELATED ARTICLES carefully and¢ respond to any for which you feel a¢ response is warranted.¢¢ The first change to which I alluded¢ may not be visible to you unless you¢ take a good look at the directories¢ of both sides of this newsletter¢ disk, or if you decide to print out¢ the disk. I have incorporated some¢ changes that I received from TOM¢ ANDREWS. Tom's innovative mind has¢ been working overtime and those of¢ you who print the newsletter will now¢ notice that your choice has been¢ expanded to include NLQ printing! Of¢ course, Tom warns you (as do I) that¢ you have to be sure that your printer¢ is capable of NLQ printing. If it¢ is, no problem! Select that choice¢ from the print menu and enjoy your¢ better-looking output. If you don't¢ have a printer with NLQ capability¢ and try to print with this choice,¢ you will see wierd (and probably¢ unacceptable) results with the three-¢ column formats. In order to¢ accomplish this task, the Welcome¢ Screen now loads from its own¢ separate BASIC program instead of the¢ main program. I've also eliminated,¢ at Tom's suggestion, some totally¢ unnecessary files from the¢ newsletter, including RAMDISK.COM. ¢ The ramdisk will no longer be set up¢ when you boot the newsletter. Of¢ course, you can put it back if you¢ wish, but I feel that it does save¢ some space.¢¢ Space, by the way, is the potential¢ change I mentioned earlier. In this¢ issue is a referendum. You need to¢ respond to it IF YOUR DISK DRIVES¢ CANNOT ACCESS DISKS FORMATTED IN 1050¢ DENSITY.¢¢ Another change involves the meeting¢ dates. PLEASE CHECK THE MEETING¢ SCHEDULE! If you need directions to¢ either site, please contact me.¢¢ A sort of ongoing change is that more¢ and more of our members are securing¢ email addresses. I have listed the¢ ones that we have to date in an¢ article on Side 1. Please send any¢ additions and/or corrections to me. ¢ Thanks.¢¢ On Side 1 the program that runs from¢ the spacebar is SUPERVER.BAS. This¢ Othello clone was taken from the¢ Bournemouth and Poole Disk Number 13¢ that was located on our copy of The¢ Pool Disk. In fact, I liked the¢ programs on this disk so much, that¢ I've included many of them in this¢ issue (see the notes about side 2.¢ Also on side 1, please find a file¢ called TPKEYPAD.ARC containing some¢ fine work by FRANK WALTERS. This is¢ a package of CX-85 Numeric Keypad¢ handlers and documentation. A couple¢ of small handlers are included for¢ use with BASIC programs and math¢ data. OK, there's nothing unusual¢ about that. But Frank has also¢ included the ability to use the¢ keypad with TextPRO and BCALC and¢ even includes files describing hou¢ you can customize those handlers for¢ your own specific tasks. Even if you¢ don't own a CX-85 the techniques he¢ uses in both BASIC and assembly-¢ language programming make this .ARC¢ file useful. There's also a copy of¢ UNARC.COM on side 2 for your¢ convenience, but I suggest copying¢ both to another disk before¢ attempting to unarc the .ARC file. I¢ also suggest that of all the text¢ and documentation files you print out¢ after unarcing the document, you read¢ the one called READ.ME first and ALL¢ OF THE OTHERS IN DETAIL! For¢ example, if you're going to use these¢ handlers under SpartaDos, there is a¢ warning to disable TDLINE and KEY¢ that's easy to overlook.¢¢ On Side 2 the program that runs from¢ the spacebar is SOLPEGS.BAS, a Hi-Q¢ clone that uses the joystick. Also¢ look for VAMPRAT.BAS, a two-player¢ joystick game, MINE.BAS, a landmine¢ avoidance game, and THUNDER.BAS, a¢ short sound demo. You will also find¢ an animation and sound demonstration¢ that you must configure as follows:¢¢ 1. Format a blank disk and write¢ DOS files to it with the H¢ option from the DOS menu.¢¢ 2. Copy the files FUNFACE,¢ SCHABIL0.DAT, SCHABIL1.DAT¢ and SCHABIL2.DAT from Side 2¢ of this newsletter disk to¢ the disk you prepared.¢¢ 3. On the disk you prepared,¢ rename FUNFACE to¢ AUTORUN.SYS. Now, put that¢ disk into drive 1 and reboot¢ your computer with BASIC¢ disabled.¢¢ FRACTAL.COM is another graphics¢ program that you will find on Side 2.¢¢ You will also find an article on Side¢ 2 by JOE HICSWA in which he gives¢ some hints, and asks for some help¢ with XLENT Word Processor.¢¢ Finally, I've included something that¢ I received as an email. It's part of¢ the "Gates-Bashing" humor that has¢ been making the rounds of late. I¢ hope you enjoy it.¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢¢¢
