After the report was¢read, ALEX reminded all, that AL¢ATKINS has been the Secretary of the¢OL' HACKERS for the past 5 years and¢has also doubled up by taking care of¢the Treasury as well. A BIG THANK YOU,¢and a round of applause was given to¢AL in recognition of his efforts.¢¢WQNR Software¢-------------¢¢ ALEX brought up the fact that¢KRIS brought us copies of his WQNR¢Software Newsletter for all members of¢the OL' HACKERS and for people who¢have bought WQNR Software.¢¢Correspondence¢-----------¢¢ First up ALEX read a letter given¢to him by KRIS that came from JIM¢CUTLER, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND. Mention¢was made of the fact that ALEX has¢sent JIM the latest OL' HACKERS¢newsletter and invited him to join the¢club. (note: KRIS spoke to JIM by¢phone prior to the meeting and was¢told that JIM has sent a money order¢for his membership dues, to join The¢OL' HACKERS).¢¢ Re: NEIL VAN OOST, Jr. ALEX¢stated that he received some disks in¢trade from NEIL, who is a GRAPHICS¢freak, and an important member of¢J.A.C.G.¢¢ Re: NETTA FILLMORE, (B.A.C.E. in¢CALIFORNIA) ALEX received 2 exchange¢disks from NETTA, along with a cute¢ATARI sticker, from somewhere in¢EUROPE.¢¢¢ Re: PAUL L. PLANTS. ALEX received¢a letter from PAUL that speaks of his¢solo effort to bring together all the¢8 BIT ATARI user groups. ALEX wrote,¢telling him we join with him in his¢efforts.¢¢ Re: ALAN SHARKIS. ALAN's letter¢to JAMES CAPPARELL of ANTIC,¢requesting that users clubs be given¢the permission to type up, and keep in¢their club libraries, copies of the¢few (VERY FEW) 8 BIT programs in START¢magazine. The answer, if any, ought to¢be interesting.¢¢ Re: NIEK VANDERLEE (our Canadian¢member). We received a post card from¢him, and it was read to the members.¢Also received, was a package from NIEK¢ a day after Alex had received the¢post card. NIEK had advised about some¢problems he was having with certain¢programs. ALEX wrote with many tips re¢his problems, as well as some tips on¢how to use TEXTPRO word processor.¢Because NIEK wanted to have a good¢program for record keeping, HARRY¢TUTHILL suggestion was to have NIEK¢use the program MICRO CHECK which is¢in our library. RON FETZER, was seen¢taking NIEKS address, and I'm sure a¢friendship is in the offing.¢¢ Re: HORST DEWITZ. He sent us a¢translation of the WEST GERMAN BIT¢BYTER Disk to be put into the club¢library.¢¢ Re: FIRST BYTE Co. ALEX found an¢old program called ENHANCEMENT TO¢BASIC, and wrote to them to see if the¢program was updated and if its still¢available. No sooner had ALEX sent the¢letter, but that a response came back¢in the mail with an updated version of¢the program Version 5.0. Also in the¢reply it was stated that FIRST BYTE¢Co. no longer exsits but that it is¢still available through¢ HATHAWAY ELECTRONICS, Box 168,¢Rices Landing, PA 15357, telephone¢(412)592-5981.¢ ALEX then showed the program to¢the members to show how extensive it¢is. He suggested that if ten or more¢members ordered the program, there was¢a lower price, and that the club kick¢in $2.00 for each copy ordered. A¢motion was called for that if 10¢members ordered the disk that the club¢would in fact kick in $2.00 per disk¢ordered. The motion was made by KRIS¢HOLTEGAARD, and seconded by JOSEF¢LEBER and was carried unanimously. To¢everyones surprise 10 members wanted¢it, and STAN SCHENFELD was delegated¢to handle the matter. STAN graciously¢offered to lay out the money for¢members who were short.¢¢ ALEX moved on to read the minutes¢for the March meeting. The minutes¢were accepted as read.¢¢ Moving on, ALEX then showed the¢members a program called TITLE CARD¢that makes screens for your program in¢ATASCII graphics. He had TITLE CARD¢appended to a program called BORROW.¢This program which no one had ever¢seen, alone, made it worthwhile to be¢a member of the club, as it will be¢available in our library.¢¢Demonstrations:¢---------------¢¢ First up was KRIS HOLTEGAARD¢with his demo of TEXTPRO, Version 4.54¢which fits the needs of any Atari¢8-Bit user either new or advanced.¢This was KRIS's second demo of¢TEXTPRO. His first demo with Version¢3.32r was back in 1988. It was time to¢demo the newest version since then to¢bring everyone up to date with the¢latest wrinkles, and NEW features that¢TEXTPRO now gives you. Some of the new¢features that were demoed were:¢¢1- How to continue printing files to¢your printer if you have multiple¢files by using the command -Inverse¢lower case "g" the followed by the¢drive and filename.¢¢2- Also, how you can check as to how¢much of the TEXTPRO Buffer is used by¢hitting -Control 'U', and it shows¢you on the top command line how large¢your current file is, how much of the¢buffer is left and where your cursor¢is at the moment.¢¢3- A question was asked as to how to¢get a directory loaded into TEXTPRO¢and saving it out to a file by hitting¢-Control L, then typing in *.*,D. This¢will load your directory into TEXTPRO¢and then you can save it out as a text¢file. Next he showed how to get a¢SPARTA DOS directory from the files¢menu by hitting -Control M, then¢moving the cursor menu bar to the *.*¢then hitting 'D'.¢¢4- KRIS then called on MARK to show¢the club how to use the TEXTPRO's¢Macro and create Macro's which turned¢out to be very simple.¢¢5- KRIS then showed us how to use the¢printer codes of your printer that you¢can inbed into your text and also¢showed how to use different types of¢justification in different parts of¢your text just by using the inverse¢key followed by the spacing of your¢document.¢¢6- He then showed how to call up the¢TEXTPRO on-line help files. It is done¢by hitting the HELP key (on the old¢400 and 800 you use the OPTION '?',¢both pressed at the same time.) key¢for the overall help file. To get the¢individual help file main menu you hit¢the OPTION key all plus the key¢corresponding to the selection you¢want.¢¢ Next up was STAN SCHENFELD who¢Demoed Mo-Label from P.A.C.E. club,¢Pennsylvania. This is truly a¢fantastic labeler program, which¢allows the user to make any size¢labels from small ones to as large as¢8x8 (maybe even larger)¢¢ Next Up was ALEX with some Oldie¢but Goodies. First was a 'LABEL'¢printing disk. and many Utilities on¢side 2.¢ Then his second disk, was 'MAIL¢PROGRAMS', and on side 2 was¢AUTODIALER and more utilities.¢¢ Then came a disk with many¢financial programs such as BOOKEEPER,¢and the Teachers Work Shop, all with¢extensive documentation on disk. Side¢2 has all educational type games.¢¢ ALEX showed the club a few disk¢repair program, of which there were¢two outstanding ones to take note of.¢One was MISTER DISK and the other,¢DISK DETECTIVE.¢ All 4 disks were then put into¢the hot hands of our club librarian¢HAROLD PEGLER, to be added to our¢LIBRARY!¢¢ Then the oldie talking 'SAM', was¢demoe'd by ALEX. Some members had¢never seen it, and all enjoyed it,¢especially when the PITCH and SPEED¢was changed.¢¢ Next demo was SOLOFLITE By MICRO¢PROS. A flight simulator, which allows¢you to fully control your plane, to¢take off and land in different¢airports, and then it will show you¢your flight path. An excellant program¢though not as complicated as FLIGHT¢SIMULATOR.¢¢¢Door Prizes¢-----------¢¢The Grand Prize went to....¢JOE LEBER SILENT BUTLER¢¢Other winners were:¢RON FETZER STAN SCHENFELD¢HARRY TUTHILL AL ATKINS¢¢¢Future Meeting Dates¢--------------------¢¢May 11, 1991 June 1, 1991¢July 20, 1991 August 17, 1991¢¢All dates are on SATURDAY and are¢scheduled for the PLAINVIEW/OLD¢BETHPAGE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
