HI TECH¢ included quotes from ALEX'S review in¢ their ads.¢ From JIM CUTLER our member from¢ England we received the current 8-Bit¢ magazines and a DEAN GARRAGHTY DISK.¢ We sent JIM, PANTHEON Ver. 2.0 and¢ SUPERB PRINT.¢ A letter from DAVE EWENS our¢ member from England to ALEX. DAVE¢ writes us that he and two friends¢ will be renewing their membership. He¢ tells us that he had attended an ALL¢ MICRO SHOW in STAFFORD England. He¢ writes us that the 8-Bit was well¢ represented there. There were MORE¢ stands for ATARI then for any other¢ computer. Three of our members in¢ England decided to start their own¢ newsletter called TWAUG (TYNE and¢ WEAR ATARI USER GROUP). They had a¢ good response to their newsletter,¢ but it looks more like a magazine at¢ this time. It will have articles,¢ news, info, where to get repairs,¢ disk drives, hardware, software,¢ hints and programs, buy and sell¢ section, etc. They will also have a¢ disk to go with it. ALEX wished them¢ good luck with their endeavor and¢ gave them permission to use anything¢ from our newsletter. We also¢ subscribed to their newsletter.¢ STUART MURRAY writes to us from¢ NOSAUG (North of Scotland Atari User¢ Group). He tells us that he likes our¢ newsletter. He says that he wants to¢ join our club. He is the editor of a¢ DISK BASED NEWSLETTER which is called¢ FUTURA and is released bi-monthly. A great program. The¢ other program is SUPERB PRINTER. It¢ is on the same disk. SUPERB is really¢ a great printing program. You can¢ manipulate the gray scale before¢ printing and you can adjust the size¢ of the picture you want. This disk is¢ fully documented and is a great¢ value. It was recently updated by the¢ author and is completely new.¢ ALEX showed the game GOLF from¢ an AIM DISK. We have all the AIM¢ DISKS in the library. Without¢ exception they are fantastic disks.¢ You cannot go wrong ordering one of¢ them. ALEX modified GOLF so that the¢ greens are green instead of yellow.¢ You can see the ball better if it is¢ green. A very nice game requiring¢ lots of skill. ALEX played very well¢ and never went into the water.¢ ALEX then demoed a French recipe¢ program. You can create, read, save¢ or print the recipe of your choice. A¢ very nice program.¢ ALEX demoed a disk from PAGE 6¢ DEMO DISK by ANTHONY RAMOS. It is the¢ most fantastic graphic and demo disk¢ that I have ever seen. It is in 1050¢ Enhanced density. It is a must have¢ disk for your library. The whole one¢ side of the disk is self playing. You¢ just load it and sit back and watch a¢ fantastic display of ATARI 8-BIT¢ MIGHT!¢ Side 2 has some more of the most¢ fantastic graphics and music you have¢ ever seen. A great buy from our¢ library.¢ ALEX showed a font program¢ called FONT16. It will allow you to¢ create and edit 16 X 16 screen fonts.¢ It will also load and expand 8 X 8 (9¢ sector) fonts. The program is fully¢ documented. Another great disk with¢ many great utility programs on it.¢ The disk is called SCREENS, sent to¢ us by JIM CUTLER.¢ We saw a great game called¢ CRIBBAGE a very addictive card game.¢ Be aware! Load it without BASIC. This¢ is one of the card games that got¢ ALEX through World War II, on his SUB¢ CHASER, the other was HEARTS.¢ We saw some Polish games. They¢ are shareware. RODRICK and ZOMGOLA¢ are two games on the disk. We could¢ not get the game started until we¢ used the fire button on the joystick.¢ The game is like ARKKANOIDS and¢ PACMAN combined. It requires¢ considerable skill to play. It has¢ many levels. This was the RODERICK¢ game.¢ We saw a demonstration of POKER¢ SAM. SAM makes wisecracks as he talks¢ to you while he is playing poker with¢ you. A very interesting game. It is¢ not P.D.¢ ALEX showed a version of BATTLE¢ SHIP. One was in complied TURBO BASIC¢ and the other version was in ATARI¢ BASIC. The compiled version was¢ definitely more interesting and¢ playable. Proving again that¢ compiling some programs improves¢ them.¢ ¢ DOOR PRIZES:¢¢ HARRY TUTHILL¢ HAROLD PEGLER¢ AL SHARKIS¢ JACK GEDALIUS¢¢ We hope to have a computer GOLF¢ TOURNAMENT in a few months.
